To ROCK or to ROLL.....

’’Good movie, good acting, and good music, aw http://www...life is good. Coming out at a time of one of the worst periods in American music (techno dudes SUCK!!!) ALMOST FAMOUS recalls back to a time when everybody played their own music instruments and sang about life, love, and drinking. The performance scenes take the viewer not into the front row, the norm in films about music, but onstage with the roar and adulation of thousands of fans. For those of you who don’t know about this movie, it’s a movie written and directed by Cameron Crowe.

It’s a semi-autobiographical movie about a fifteen-year-old kid who has the talent and the luck to write an article for Rolling Stones, by joining an up-and-coming rock band STILLWATERS on the road for a few days. Along the way, he struggles with the concept of reporting the truth vs his friendship with the band members, and meets a group(band aids as PENNY LANE would have liked herself to be called) who also likes to hang out with the band.

There r a few scenes which r just too good like the band poster, plane crash, the pool scene....watch the movie & u’ll know. The performances r great too...I liked the character of the vocalist of the band a lot(jason lee). If u r in a rock band or hang out with such people u’ll know why this movie is so good(thats the reason this movie was such a senti on for me & my friends). For trivia the characters of LESTER BANGS the editor of Creem magazine portrayed by Philip Seymour Hoffman(how does he manage to get such short but powerful roles in all the good movies) was a cult rock’n roll critic. Some say he was the God of music writers.

I’m not sure about this one but I remember reading an article about some groupie called PENNY LANE in PENTHOUSE magazine , she is supposed to be the greatest of them all ..... A tribute to the music that is rock ’n roll, this film lets you ride along with various participants of the game, checking out the different sceneries along the way. It gets behind the music, behind the fans, behind the band, behind everything! It will definitely bring back a flood of memories to anyone who actually lived through those times, and certainly connect to anyone else who has ever been a major fan of any rock band or ever wanted to be a musician (rock star) themselves.

This film puts rock ’n roll on a pedestal but that’s not all it does. It’s really a journey about finding yourself. Characters all floating around their lives, unsure of who they are or what they stand for, until their day-to-day interactions eventually help them find their true selves.

With ALMOST FAMOUS, Crowe has finally achieved a career milestone after knocking each one of his previous films out of the park(JERRY MAGUIRE being one of them...so imagine how good this one must be). He has made his CITIZEN KANE. A remarkable achievement in personal filmmaking, ALMOST FAMOUS will be the film he is remembered for.
