Bought RT air itcket through AE. Card expired before after I left for a 3 months trip to Europe although informed AE a month before its expiration and was told I still could use it another month after expiry( they wont issue new cards until its very expiry date. and was told a new card was on its way. While abroad, instructed family to mail the card soon as it arrived. it arrived two weeks after the next month’s grace period. I’ve called AE many times to inform them that the card hadn’t arrived for which they immediately cancelled the card that was issued. Meantime the card finally arrived home and family sent this immediatelyt to my address in Europe. After many calls, emails and exchanges were made to AE and family( to call on my behalf from Canada as calls to them were often disconnected), countless calls, hours and wifi calls used. It was totally agonizing their customer service is totally USELESS. I was inconvenienced and no effort on their part to call me back, responsewere useless as they cannot help to send a new card directly despite giving my address in Europe. Felt helpless and I swear not to use AE again. s no apologies instead offered a$100.00 for all the pain and inconvenience.a thoughtless offer. I’ve spent more than a$100 on topping up my cards, spent sleepless nights and early mornings just rying to connect with AE, Missing out days outdoors, Air miles lost for 3 month not in use. Its been 2 months since I came back home and hadnt used AE ever since. I’ve paid$100+ in advance for the annual fee after the expiry date and it seems that it is a total loss on my part. I am so grateful I still have Visa which helped me a lot on this trip as well as MASTERCARD, no yearly dues and customer service makes you feel well secured. MY advice to everyone is use other cards, AVOID and DONT USE AMERICAN EXPRESS.a lot of complaints from another US site unavailable for Canadians to make complaints to.
