On 28th Jan 2009 my mom was having difficulty breathing at 5 am, .Since we live at Golpark , AMRI dhakuria was the first place that came to mind .
That was the worst decision of our lives and well be spending the rest of it repenting. My mom passed away on 21st Feb 2009 and we have nothing but a list of huge mistakes that was made by the team of doctors and staff treating her which finally killed her.
AMRI kolkata is a money spinning unit which exploits the sentiments of the patients relatives and keeps their coffers full. The staff ( nurses, RMOs etc) there are totally negligent and unconcerned about the patient for which they are being paid. The doctors are equally rude and manipulative and Dont give the right information. The management is a typical baniya management only concerned about the money that will come. So the patient is actually in the hands of ruthless people who care a damn about its health or recovery
On 28th jan my mom was taken to the EMERGENCY at 5 am. they kept her waiting till 8 am , since we had not taken the insurance card and finally admitted her... but it was too late she had suffered her 1st attack lying on their stretcher left unattended .... but that was just the beginning of her torture and ours too. They then took her to their TITU ward and wired her to a ventilator and fixed a Temporary PACEMAKER after diagnosing that she was pacemaker dependent.
They then did varied test and found that she had pneumonia and due to that infection she was having difficulty breathing. They started treating her and finally she started responding to the treatment. The doctors had weaned her off the ventilator on the 8th of Feb and all her reports were reassuring. Since she had a TEMPORARY Pacemaker (TPM) they were planning to operate her and fix a Permanent Pace maker which they said would be done in a day or two when she was a little better. She was making steady progress and was given soft food on 9th evening which she liked.
On 10th , the doctors called us at 3.45 pm. , 15 mins before visiting hours and said that she had suffered a 2nd attack because the nurse had given too much water to drink some of which she had aspirated and had violent coughs which caused the leads of the TPM to move and caused the attack. She was revived and put on ventilation for the 2nd time and from then it was a downhill journey. She was not responding to the treatment like earlier and the everyday a new problem arose. She was having multiple organ failure which we were not informed about. Innumerable test were being done on daily basis.
The billing had skyrocketed averaging at 30- 40 thousand per day. Everyday we used to visit her and tell her that she would be fine and we would take her home. The doctors were totally unconcerned as were the care givers. Finally my moms 25 days ordeal came to an end and she left us on the 21st feb at 6.45 pm, she was only 60 yrs old and did not have any history of ailment. It was for the first time in past 28 years that she was taken to a hospital or doctor.
**We will regret taking her to AMRI Dhakuria for the rest of our lives and would like to warn people not to take their dear ones to the butchers at AMRI. We learnt the lesson a hard way and this review is to create awareness. Nothing said or done can bring my mom back but at least a few of us will be informed.**
