It was a traumatic experience to take my wife to AMRI Saltlake. My wife has ailment of Myasthenia Gravis - a neuromuscular problem.
We stay near Mumbai and at first getting my wifes treatment done in Mumbai only.
Then we decided to consult Dr. A. Chakraborty, the so called "top" neurologist in Kolkata as Kolkata is our hometown and we will get relatives support. He advised for an IV injection which, he told, will cost around 1 lakh but will be very effective. And for this, he told, my wife should be admitted in AMRI only as other hospitals do not have this treatment facility. Though 1 lakh is a great amount for me but still I agreed thinking for better outcome.
She was admitted on 20/11/09 and we came to know that the injection cost around 3 lakh(after special discount). My wifes condition deteriorated day by day in ICCU and cough accumulated inside her chest which cause her difficulty to breathe. Doctors and RMO were careless to treat for the cough and ultimately when it became worse they put her on ventilation. While on ventilation limitless medicines and antibiotics were pushed into her as they told she developed lung infection. 43 blood tests, 5 chest X-rays and one CT scan done in her 8 days of ventilation and total 15 days of hospital stay. Dr. Chakraborty was available for two days only in a week to see the patient. He did not attend his calls on Saturday and Sunday. Whenever we discussed about the condition he always told that the condition is very bad and he has nothing more to do.
I have some respects for ICCU incharge - he is cooperative and dependable; but he alone cannot be the whole hospital.
However, after weaning off and extubation we shifted my wife to Apollo on and within 4 days she was on her feet. Thanks to Doctors of Apollo.
So please think twice before going to AMRI Salt lake for any reason whatsoever. I lost huge money, energy and confidence.
