Amrita Institute - A great place to be..
I read a review by Rathnavel on his assessment of Amrita Institute and his comparison with other colleges in and around Coimbatore. I would say Rathnavel missed it by miles.
I am a proud Alumni of this great institute and obviously take great pleasure in spreading good about the institute. I did my Post Graduation in Management from AIM (Amrita Institute of Management)after my Graduation in Mechanical Engg from MG University, Kerala.
Since we all live in the same campus, I had a lot of opportunity to interact with other students in Engg., MCA, C-DAC etc. These interactions helped me assess the competence of Amrita as a great centre of learning.
Compared to most other institutes in coimbatore and for that matter, this part of India - Amrita is a pretty young institute. When I came for my PG interview, I also had my doubts on the institute. But what I saw there was surreal. I couldnt believe how fast this institute has grown.
A look at the faculty revealed that it was a constellation - Kellogs, IIMs, IITs you name it.. It was indeed a revelation for me to know that most of the faculty had served in very senior positions in best of breed organisations across the globe. So they knew what they were teaching us (unlike most theoreticians). Most of the faculty stayed within the campus and this helped us in getting to know them closer and learn from their experiences. More than books, I feel it was these chitchats in the canteen and in the garden that gave us insight into management.
Regarding the point on Accreditation raised by Rethnavel, I would like to inform that our institution has indeed gone for accreditations including NAAC and has now attained the status of a Deemed University. One of the few such institutes in India and perhaps the fastest to achieve this. It would be worth highlighting that other deemed universities in India include biggies like IITs, Manipal Institue of Higher education etc. Rathnavel can be proud of the fact that this is the only such institute in Coimbatore.
Eventhough Ettimadai, the campus, is 16 Kms from coimbatore city, it is well networked by rail and road to both Palghat and Coimbatore. The students are connected to the world through a 2MBPS brad band line and the entire campus is power backed by advanced in-campus generators.
For those who feel my thoughts are biased, I would reccommend you take a stroll through the campus and meet the students. Dont be mislead by others opinion. Because you will never know what you missed !
I am indeed proud to be part of one of the greatest institutions in the making. I strongly reccommend Amrita.
