Amsterdam, o Amsterdam,
How I love you, Amsterdam…
Buck Owens sang that song many years ago. I dont know if he actually was in Amsterdam.
But the Dutch Capitol is a nice town to visit.
People always are talking about Amsterdam. From where I live, Amsterdam can be reached within the hour, by train. Arriving at Central Station is an adventure, you can see a lot from there.
For the tourists: there is a nice doughnut-stand in the hall from Central Station.
From there, you are able to walk into the city.
Huge. I visited the Dam in Amsterdam, and I felt very little. The Palace is large, majestic.
Enjoyed the doves, picking up food.
Walked over the Albert Kuyp market as well. It is nice to see all those people going, looking for the things they want to buy, and see the salesmen work.
My husband took me to the Kalverstraat, the most expensive street on the Monopoly board.
The Kalverstraat is small. Very small. I always pictured it larger.
And there are a lot more things to see.
Like the Nieuwe kerk, (New Church). An important church, also for the Royal Family.
And dont forget the Rijksmuseum. Famous paintings can be found there, like the Nachtwacht, painted by Rembrandt, as well as paintings from Jan Steen, and Frans Hals.
But, it is fun, to take a tour with the tram. It is an adventure. Especially when the tram is full, and a car is parked on the tramway. The driver gave a horn-signal first. Waited for five minutes. No response.
But time is expensive, and a second one was waiting behind the first one already.
No more warnings. A bang! The tram tried to push the car away. And the people inside, shocked, but amused looked what would happen. Four men got out, and we heard a one – two – now!
They pulled the car on the side, and the people in the trams were hilarious.
The way was free, and the tram went on. We saw the driver coming out, with his hands in his hair.
That is only possible in Amsterdam.
We have visited Amsterdam Harbor also. Very nice view, especially when you are standing on a ship.
I enjoyed it.
Also nice to do, is paying a visit to the RAI.
In January, there is a large car exposition in the RAI in Amsterdam. Large halls, with the newest cars can be visited, and you can spend there a whole day, if you like. Then, you havent seen everything at all. The same can be said of the Huishoudbeurs (in April). Lots of new things are shown, to make the life of homemakers more comfortable. You can also get information about new products, and try some out.
But, at the end of the day, you sure are tired, and glad that there is a train, taking you home.
Artis. The Amsterdam Zoo is wonderful to visit with little children. They are enjoying most of the animals. Take your time. There is so much to see. I cant describe all the nice places.
That is for sure, o Amsterdam!
