I wasnt expecting much of this book. I just picked it up for some filmy gossip and the book, somewhat, did serve the purpose. An Unsuitable boy definitely gives us insight into Karans personal life, equation with friends and family and even an overview of the film industry.
The first few chapters in the book are certainly endearing. Karans family background, childhood and even college-life is quite relatable much to the writers dismay. Karans constant need to garner sympathy falls flat on the face because rhetorically he didnt have atroublesome childhood like he tried to project in the book.
I cannot deny that I did enjoy the book in the beginning. Chapters likeKuch Kuch Hota hai andEarly Film-making years are thoroughly entertaining. Up until this point in the book, the narrative is quite simple and clean. You understand and become a part of his journey. After these chapters, the book is a sing-song tale of how affable young Karan grows up to become a pompous, self centered, always right, self proclaimedStar.
Overall, the book is somewhat entertaining if you are a movie-buff. There are some interesting tit-bits about Karans life that will make you smile as well. If you are patient enough to read through how Karansupposedly changed the tide in the Film industry, I say go for it.
