I saw first the Tamil version of this movie sometime in September 2000 when I was in U.S. with my daughter. I saw the Original malayalam movie only last year when its CDs were gifted to me by my daughter-in-law. Though the movie is almost 9-10 years old still it attracts audience both at the theater and at TV! The reason is very simple. It is one of the few -countable on fingers -clean and neat pictures the society enjoyed in the recent times. It can be viewed happily with all the family members together.
Among the roles the first prize goes to Mini’s mother(K.P.A.C. Lalitha) and to Late Smt. Sri Vidya. They both acted so well that they lived in their roles. Sri Vidya excellently exhibited the feelings of a responsible mother when her son brought an unmarried girl home without the permission of her parents. Here we must appreciate the writer and the Director for giving a message to the new generation not to indulge in such careless acts! The whole life of the movie is the last scene. When Tilakan and Sri Vidya take the leave of Mini’s brothers and mother, it is the mother of Mini came forward to save the situation for her daughter.
It is a grand scene that none can forget. Hats off to Fazil Saab! there is amessage in this move for the society in general. firstly, young boys should not experiment with the lives of young girls in the name of love. Secondly, once the parents realise that their children are honestly in love with each other they should respect their love(irrespective of religious bars). A must for every Malayalee parent to see. I know many might have seen. But this time please see from a different angle. some alcoholic consuming scenes could have been avouided.
But the producer and director might have felt them necessary for commercial reasons. EWven without those scenes it can still be a Super hit movie.
