A Known Boring Zone

Is it a crime to be famous? Does popularity makes one a person gifted with the MIDAS touch, who when touches anything turns gold? Well at least Bollywood thinks so & why shouldn’t they, after all there is no biz like showbiz. So hope floats. At times hope against hope creates waves.

Ranvir Kapoor is going through his prime time & has impressed everyone with his performances that has made him a hot celebrity in demand. Priyanka Chopra fresh with last year’s National award too has managed to create a stir among the movie buffs, which is the reason that all her movies are always a center of discussion.

So what happens when these two souls meet, who are completely unknown to each other (I read somewhere that Ranvir & Priyanka met first time in their life on the sets of Ajnaana Anjaani. Perfect premises for the film, where the real life popular stars who were strangers would be playing reel life strangers.

The film made under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandsons by the lucky producer Sajid Nadiadwala. Lucky because almost all of his films click at the box office. A producer with a Midas touch? Hmmm! Well, not any more.

Is there any relationship between HYPE & SATISFACTION? This was the first question that hit me after I walked out of the theater as soon as the end credits began to roll on the screen where my eyes were glued almost for 150 minutes wondering what did this Anjaana (myself) do that he has to suffer this Anjaani (the film).

Anjaana Anjaani can be defined in one word ‘FIASCO’ because there can’t be any other word that can create the impact that the word FIASCO does. Hot sellable stars, lucky producer with many hits under his belt, top notch marketing, story …. Hmmm! Well. The least said the best.

Director Siddhartha Anand who gave us Salaam Namastey (a frame to frame remake of Vince Vaughn & Jennifer Aniston starrer Break-Up), which was followed by the flop Tara Rum Pum hasn’t learnt his lessons. He did begin the film well with some brilliantly shot scenes that tells us that he can be a good technician behind the camera. Imagine the hero who is about to commit suicide meets the heroine who also wants to do the same. Sounds interesting.

But post those 15 minutes the film runs on the so JAANA PECHAANA track that even a kid who has seen 20 Hindi films can guess the result. So one shouldn’t be proud of himself that he/she guessed it right.

Music by Vishal Shekhar is from their well known noisy territory where the instruments are played very loudly, so that we can call it foot tapping music. I forgot how many songs were there but one song keeps haunting me “tu na jaane aas paas hai khuda”, which when played for the Nth time on the screen, I actually looked around for God only to find that the seat next to mine where a person was sitting was empty. I began to wonder has he too become invisible like khuda or has just walked out.

Writing is a mockery because the film is based on two major characters and their characterization is so weak that it makes me wonder, how can someone approve such a silly plot? The writer too was Anjaana about the characters. There are so many scenes that send you to the zzzzzzz zone as they appear only to increase the length of the film.

Photography gets 10 on 10.

Ranvir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra deliver another good performance but even their efforts fails to lift the film to a respectable level and this is because of their characters.

In this era when the young film makers are coming up with noble ideas and are giving us films of hatke league one wonders why Siddharta Anand has to stick to the beaten to death formulas. He is talented but he has to realize that.

I loved this dialogue from the film when Priyanka Chopra tells Ranvir Kapoor "tum anjaane hi acche they". We can actually say the same about the film. Avoidable stuff. Not recommended.
