Hav u seen Anjali on Children’s day?(Why dont v celebrate C.D once in a month. If so v can c the film often.) Wat a fantastic movie! I hav seen it after 6 or 7 yrs. I had no knowledge abt films then. So now this film was added in my ’tears category’. Yes.... This was the 3rd film, tears wet my eyes!! The strange thing happens here also... S... its IR for this 3rd film also!! Ok.. Lets move on to the film!!
’The story shud start 4m the very first scene itself’ - (I think) Akira Kurosova. In Anjali, the story starts right 4m the first scene. MR tells its a childrens film in the first scene intro. All actors(even Rahuvaran n Revathy) failed to act if v compare it with the performance of Anjali’s bro n sis. And again these two were failed when Anjali(Shamley) took over the scene. And finally when the film ends, MR steals the show 4m all others!! Wat a direction!! One scene 4m ’Anjali Anjali’ song....
’All kids went to an Icecream parlour n bought ONLY ONE icecream for ANJALI’.
When Anjali’s sis shouted over Janagaraj ’Ye, Paithiyam’, Rahuvaran slapped her. Revathy asked ’Why? usually u dont hav the habit of beating children?’ MR gave the ans when Anjali was introduced.
After beating her, Rahuvaran went to her. Thr the img looks blurred. ie: as if v c an img by screamed eyes. Yes... those 2 were screaming.
The char change of the kids, bro n sis of Anjali, handled in a perfect manner. When Anjali was broght into the house, her sis asked her bro, ’Wht did u pray to God?’. He replied ’Anjali shud die soon’. ’I too pray like tat’, she mourned. In the climax, she asked the same ques to her bro. He said, ’Anjali shud live long’. ’I too pray like tat’, her sis. In one scene, she asked her father, ’Why Anjali born as my sis?’. Yes... Its all dialogue matters!
When Anjali was brought into home, she was walking towards her bro n sis. But she slipped. Revathy tried to catch her(Mothers feeling without a dialogue!). But Rahuvaran stopped her. He thought Anjali shud learn everything by herself. Female thinks emotionally, but male thinks logically. MR showed this also! (Just b4 this scene the doctor said Anjali is improving.)
Who was that cameraman, MadhuKuttan? I think all noticed this... He used one color as bakround in every song. When Anjali called her mother, v can c only Anjali’s hands n a blurred img of Revathy. And the morning sweeper scene!
Normally in MR’s films, thr were no tough dance steps, but the cinematography n choreography took the song to a greater extent. Here also(Sundaram) he proved again. I donno why MR tried for Graphics. May be, he wanted to intro it to Indian film industry in the early 90s. (Even now, persons like Shankar r using the same old styles...horrible!) MR himself said ’Graphics can be added, if v cant find it’. eg: Kannathil.
V all wondered abt the quake setting in Boys, but Thotta Tharani did it in Anjali. Even Boys setting looks better than Anjali’s, v shud think of the technology improvements also. B.Lenin n V.T. Vijayan’s editing... a scene alike Idhayathai starting scene... When the meeting of parents held inside the room, the kids also arranged a meeting outside.
IR ’real’ly did a Raajangahm in the film. Hav u heared ’Veena is talking’. Here it does. Whenever Revathy asked ’Will Anjali love me?’, the same ques was repeated by Veena by only 3 touches. And the opposite person said ’dont worry’ again the veena repeats the console.(When she asked it first time, Flute did the work)
I dont think anybody other than IR used(r using) violin as much as him. In the first scene he violin for a sad situation, n the situation changes. Violin plays a happy tune in the very nxt scene. In most scenes he is mum. In some scenes, he played violin with very little sound. I think he shud hav named ’Study for violin’ as ’Research for Violin’. Even tat is also not verymuch suited, since he finished his Research. :-)
When V.K. Ramasamy n Poornam were fighting in the meeting over thier son n daughter’s love, Miruthangam was used. And the imp point is, IR used only one side of the Miruthangam. (Plz experts clear this)
When V.K.R n Poornam’s son n daughter wsa playing ’dump shreds’, IR played ’Mottai Maadi’ tune with a diff touch with flute.
When Anjali was introduced, tat flute piece! (somewat like prelude of ’Chinna thaayaval’ 4m Thalapathy?)
The climax piece.... How cud I explain the whole 20 min fantastic music in just 2 or 3 sentences?
Anjali’s sis was a ’loda loda’ char. eg: ’Appa, did amma die?’ when Revathy came to hospital in the first scene. And when Revathy n Rahuvaran fought, she asked ’Appa, r u going to get diverse?’. She asked everything. But if she asked it in negative sense, it wudnt happen. ie: Revathy was alive, n they didnt diverseeach other. But in the final scene, she never asked ’Will Anjali die?’, only her bro asked. This is a gud directoin.
I think she shud hav asked ’Will Anjali die?’ If she asked, Anjali wudnt die. Looks silly? But I cudnt digest the death of Anjali. Yes... tat is the success of MR!!!
