After having written reviews for many of the sick new releases for a change I thought of watching and reviewing a movie which was released way back in March 1978.
Ankhiyon ke Jarokhon Se - a movie produced under the prestigious banner of Rajshri Films, produced by the Barjatyas and Directed by Hiren Nag. Films released under the banner of Rajshri is well known for its fabulous and soothing music. Music of Ankhiyon Ke Jarokhon Se is by Ravindra Jain.

The story opens with Arun Malhotra (son of a rich business tycoon) getting his University Degree and being declared and honoured with an awarded for being the University Topper. On receiving the honour Arun goes home and places the award and degree received by him in front of a girls photograph, his memory goes to the back to their college days.
Arun is one of the brightest students and is always the class topper till the time Lilly Fernandes joins the college. On Lilly’s joining she beats Arun and takes a lead. This annoys Arun and his friends and they plan to teach Lilly a lesson.
A Hindi Poetry competition is being planned to be held in the college and Arun is the lone participant. With an intention of taking revenge on Lilly Arun’s friends gives the name of Lilly as competitor to Arun, assuming that Lilly cannot fare well in Poetry recitation. However things goes against them as Lilly too is well versed with Hindi poets and poetry. Competition begins and the judges get confused and they declare both Arun and Lilly joint winners.
After this incidence Arun starts making friendship with Lilly. On one occasion one of Lilly’s friend plans to take revenge on Arun’s friend and removes the brake wire of his two wheeler. Unfortunately on that particular day Arun takes the two wheeler and he meets with an accident.
Lilly feels bad for Arun and comes to meet him at the hospital. They come closer to each other. Arun also visits Lilly’s house and meets her mother who is working as a nurse in a hospital.
Lilly and Arun starts loving each other and reveal their love to their parents who agrees to get them married. Once while dancing in a party Lilly faints and falls down on checking her Doctor informs her mother that Lilly is suffering from Brain Cancer and she will not survive for a very long.
Lilly’s mother informs this to Arun’s father and they decide to stop the wedding. On hearing that the wedding is stopped Arun gets furious however later on he learns the truth and gets disheartened. There at hospital Lilly too over hears Doctors conversation and comes to know about the fact.
After knowing the fact Arun decides that till the time Lilly is alive he has to keep her happy. He takes her along and goes to college and its campus where they had spent their happier moments. A day comes when Lilly asks Arun to promise to her that just because of her death Arun will not lose his concentration on studies and will come as University topper, taking this promise Lilly breaths her last in arms of Arun.
Arun keeps up his promise made to Lilly and emerges as university topper and he places the award and his degree in front of the photograph of Lilly and thinks of her.
Ankhiyon Ke Jarokhon Se a love story with a difference where it is not parents who disapproves of the match but fate which disapproves the match. Normally in all Hindi movies it is the rich parent who disapproves the match but this was a movie with difference.
Songs of this movie are just evergreeeeeen and can it can remain fresh in your memories for ages together. In fact I had seen this movie somewhere during 1981 now after 22 years when I had seen this movie I could remember each and every word of its songs such was the magic of lyrics of yesteryears which is always fresh in the minds of viewers. On the contrary most of the lyrics and songs of the current lot of movies gives me an additional opportunity to go out and have a cup of tea.
