Sweet Cuddly Story

Like all the other books before it, the sixth book in the Anne series, Anne of Ingleside, is a very good read. Compared to the first one, it’s not as good, but it’s the perfect book for a rainy day. Sweet, cuddly, and humorous, Anne of Ingleside tells the story of Anne’s children: 7 year old James Mathew Blythe(Jem), 6 year old Walter Cuthbert Blythe, 4 year old twin girls, Anne and Diana Blythe(Nan and Di), 2 year old Shirley Blythe, and newborn baby Bertha Marilla Blythe(Rilla).

The story spans six years and each chapter tells an adventure of a different child. For example, the first one is on Jem, then Walter, etc.

By the end of the book, Anne’s children are nearly grown up as they have aged six years. The story ends with Anne doubting her husband, Gilbert Blythe’s, love for her since he’s always too busy with his patients to pay attention to his family any more. After a town party, in which Chirstine Stuart, who once had a crush on Gilbert long ago, makes an unwelcome appearance, Anne finds out that Gilbert’s anniversary present for her hadn’t come in the mail soon enough and he was too embarrassed, so he pretended that he forgot the anniversary. The story ends happily when in the last minute, the late present arrives in the mail and Anne forgives Gilbert. She sympathizes childless Christine and reflects on the fact that she is a very lucky woman, having six wonderful honest children and a happy household.

I personally love Anne of Ingleside, because it shows how a harmonious household is run and how when everyone works together, they can conquer any problem. A turn of each page shows love, happiness, sorrow, and strength to face hardships(ex. Aunt Mary Maria). After reading Anne of Ingleside, I felt as if the world isn’t completely dangerous, and there are places where you can just be yourself and dream about whatever you want.

All in all, Anne of Ingleside is a defintely good read.
