Worth a watch

I saw the movie Anniyan last night. It is the best tamil movie I have seen in a while. And keeping true to my trend, my review will not give the details away since this was a movie I liked.

Ramanujam (played by Vikram) is from an Iyengar family and is trained as a lawyer. He does not like disorder at all and is frustrated at people not being socially responsible. He hates the fact that people break traffic rules and do public nuisance (like urinating in public, throwing garbage on the roads), manufacturers sell defective products and showing no empathy for others in the society. As you can guess, how he is going to stop all these wrong practices and lead the country to a new light forms the crux of the movie. Vikram has given a very strong performance in this movie. Nandini (played by Sadha) is Ramanujam’s love interest and she too has acted well and has a main role in this film. Can I add, she also looks quite stunning? ;)

Comic relief is provided by Vivek and while I have never really liked Vivek, I could not help but laugh at some of his jokes in this one. That’s a first time! Praskash Raj also has a vital role and he is impressive.

Since this is a thriller I enjoyed, I do not want to give the whole story away and would rather let you watch it. The first half is very good and the second, even though a bit disappointing is nice too. Shankar’s direction is great and Vikram has executed his role with aplomb. Music is by Harris Jayaraj and it is enticing.

Anniyan receives 4 stars from me.
