Pseudo intellictualism...

As I was browsing through the different cd’s displayed for a 50%discount sale I came across a movie starring Sanjeev Kumar and Tanuja named ANUBHAV.....to add to my curiosity it was produced, scripted and directed by Basu Bhattachirya! And since I was in a mood to add new entries to my Library of vcds and dvds I thaught why not take the gamble??.....sorry to say but the gamble did not pay off!

These days there is this trend going on about new wave cinema or alternative cinema but as I see this trend has been going on ever since the time films were made....There are always makers either seriously and sincierly wanting to try something different or make some crap to impress the critics but unfortunately disappoint the audience, which is why crossover or offbeat films dont seem to be making money!

The case with ANUBHAV is that of a film maker trying to impress the critics with unbearably boring goingg-ons synonymed as seriousness(i almost dozed off during the first 20mins itself trying increasingly hard to keep my eyes open)......I mean if you really want to make something different on topics like DEPRESSION, MARRIAGE, RELATIONSHIPS, MALE CHAUVINISM, POVERTY, PROSTITUTION, CHILD ABUSE..etc etc make it with vision and have a story to keep the viewer glued!

ANUBHAV has no story to boast of! How much time can u give to watch the routine of a upper class, tight lipped house wife who has problems communicating with her husband? What I suggest is dont base your films on misconceptions and misunderstandings , insted concentrate on the ways of solving them by sketching a mature character!

ANUBHAV deals with Tanuja and how her life changes when her past comes in the way of her happy life, what I mean by past is , how her realtionship before marriage affects the usual setup of her marriage with Sanjeev Kumar.

The director has only shown this.....There was a lot of scope to show the depths of both the characters but unfortunately he does not seem to have done that. This film is 2 and a half hours of boredome and the srtory goes completely hay-wire!

If this can be interpreted as intellictual by our intelligent audiences then there must be something seriously wrong!

PERFORMANCES...

TANUJA: Tanjua does her job exceptionally well and looks sensational....she fits her character to the pin and is undoubtedly the only sauve and sexy actress of her time....also the saving grace of the sad attempt made by Basu Bhattachriya!

SANJEEV KUMAR: Sanjeev kumar too has done his job pretty well and they look very good as a couple together...

I would like to give a special mention to the songs by KANU ROY. The music is an absolute masterpiece and the voices rendered by Geeta Dutt in ’’meri Jaa’’ and ’’koi Chupke se’’ are haunting!

Cheers!
