Not many people know that anupam kher is the only actor to win 8 straight filmfare awardss, yeah probably shahrukh khan has more, but he shahrukh didn’t get one in 1996, 1999, anupam kher has gotten 8 times straight, it’s more then a cricket hatrick.
Kher is an incredible actor and is capable of doing any kind of an act. He is married to actress kiron kher and has a son sikander kher, who I don’t think made any debut in any movie so far. Born in shimla march 7, 1955 he has acted in more then 200 hindi films. He also has a brother rajiv kher, They both came to bombay in 1981, his brother worked in a factory while kher hung around producers and directors offices so he could show them his acting skills. KHer met mahesh bhatt, who loved his acting skills and told anupam kher that will be doing the lead hero role in his film saaaransh and it was the role of a 65 year old man. Kher wanted to be a he-man at that time, when stars like sunny deol, mithunda, anil kapoor were getting recognized he wanted to be just like them, but when he heard the script of the film he accepted it immediatly, it was a story of a retired elderly school principal who’s only son dies in usa and then the elderly couple face a lot of problems and they struggle to receive ashes of their son, refusing to bribe a corrupt system. Kher was kicked out by mahesh bhatt after a week, because bhatt signed sanjeev kumar for the lead role, but anupam kher got into a big fight with mahesh bhatt and told him that he can do better then sanjeev kumar. WHen the movie released it was a superhit and anupam kher received his first filmfare award for best actor.
Then next film more anupam kher was arjun, starring sunny deol and anupam kher did a villain role and the movie was a hit. kher plays a corrupt politican and gives a good performance. He has also played villain in films like ghar mein ram gali mein shaam, teezab, vijay, ek ladka ek ladki, hum, khatarnak one villain role that will always be rememberd was in the film karma as dr dang, after gabbar singh and mugambo I can only remember two more villains dr dang and sanju’s role as khalnayak. The other villain role of anupam that I loved was in the film looterre and roop ki rani choron ka raja, in lootere he plays changez lala and in roop ki rani choron ka raj he plays yograj both were award worthy performances for villain and his protrayal as a villain the film dushmani satrring jackie shroff and sunny deol.
One the way he has done some supporting roles as well, in films like chandni, parinda, janam, samundar. Other performance of him as a lead actor was in the film daddy, which he got a critics award for best actor also.
Comedy performances, I think he’s one of the best comedians also he got awards for his performances in films like Khel, darr, ram lakhan, lamhe and dilwale dulhania le jayenge the scene I loved in dilwale dulhania le jayenge was when he was showing srk picture of his grandafther’s who never went to school. One other comedy performance was in the film mast kalander where he plays tinku son of gangster amrish puri. The movie is really funny also.
Chahat was a another good performance, the film was directed by mahesh bhatt again but the film flopped but anupam kher stole the show in the last 10 minutes of the movie. Anupam kher has also gotten a supprting actor award for the film vijay. HIs last movie was maine gandhi ko nahin mara even at this age his acting is still the same.
