I am a very loyal fan of John Grisham. I have read all his books. He is my fav. author. My love for his book started when I read "The runaway Jury". I become addicted to his legal fiction books.....
Though for a change he had written some non-law books like a painted house, skipping Christmas, Bleachers, and Playing for pizza. I have read them too all were good engrossing books for me. But since long I was awaiting his legal fiction. And at last The APPEAL has arrived.
Incidentally it starts where my first book "The runaway Jury" had ended with a big verdict against the big bad corporation. In runaway jury it was cigarette making company, over here its a chemical company accused of dumping toxic waste in the small towns water supply and contemplating all the water and causing "worst cancer cluster" in the history.
"Every Verdict comes at a price" is the head line of the book which I found was very effective.
The story starts how big company, small town affected villagers, lawyers, religious fathers, politicians work for and against the case.
The chemical company is owned by a wall street predator named Carl Trudeau, how he tries to buy justice. How a small town lawyer couple just goes bankrupt handling the case and despite that they fight.
What happens if the judge is bought by the big corporations?
It throws new light to how money travels during an election over here its a supreme court judges election but as in reality its USA presidential election time so the resemblance cannot be ignored. It gives lots of questions/thoughts about elections.
I will not give away suspense.
This grisham novel has on drawback and its the ending. I had never read such an end to a grisham book.
This is not his best book. But as his legal fiction has come after a long long time it appeals to his loyal fans like me. Still Its a page turner, engrossing novel. Lots of familiar stuff for a regular fan plus something new and for a new person its a good read.
Over all a one time read...
My rating 3.5
