An Appetite For Stardom

I have never felt this kind of an anxiety before, may be it is because i’m about to comment on a band that created history. Guns and Roses released this album at a time when pop and glam rock bands were at their peak. Guns N’ Roses had something that was different from the other bands at that time, they were not writing songs about the love of their life, and they were not trying to tell people that the world is a beautiful place to live in, instead they were singing about sex, drugs and alcohol. The band had something new to offer to the generation y crowd. a sixteen year old who is pissed off with the whole world would immediately hook onto this album. This album broke all records for a debut release, I don’t know the exact figures, but I think they can be found on the net. the first song that I listened to in this album was ’’sweet child of mine’’, this song was a welcome change for a guy like me who was bored of Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams. I realised later that the only reason I listened to those songs was because they were easily available. Guns N’ Roses on the other hand is hard to find. Only a dedicated fan of GNR would have this CD. After ’’Sweet Child Of Mine’’, GNR became some kind of obsession for me and I couldn’t rest until I had every single song of GNR with me on my computer. GNR is usually classified as HARD ROCK but you can find a little bit of punk rock stylings in their works, especially in the album ’’The Spagetti Incident’’, but we are here to talk about Appetite For Destruction so i’ll just get back to the album that changed my life and the life of many others for sure.

Opinions:

Axl Roses is often referred to as the genius behind the mike and you can see that it all started with this album. his screeching voice suits the songs perfectly. His voice was full of anger and hatred. Slash is one of the greatest composers of all time. His genius is seen in the solo of ’’Sweet Child O’ Mine’’, ’’Night Train’’ and all other songs of this album. Izzy Stradlin was the best song writer that GNR had. His guitar riffs and lyrics are both equally appealing. Duff and Steven complete the band with the Bass and Drums. The songs in this album are simply amazing, the palm muting and wah techniques that slash uses in the intro of Welcome To The Jungle and Mr. Brownstone simply blow your mind away. ’’Night Train’’ is a high intensity hard rock number, which keeps the same pace from start to end, it is my favourite GNR song and it is one of the greatest songs according to me.The solo of ’’Sweet Child O’ Mine’’ has been ranked among the greatest guitar solos of the century and is the number 1 in my opinion. It’ So Easy, My Michelle are perfect examples of how raw GNR is. They had a bad boy image and they were proud of it. All in all Appetite For Destruction is the perfect album.
