After an year of drooling at the Apples website, browsing through its features, listening to people about their feelings, at last I bought the Apple iPhone 3G from a guy in US (refurbished). Here am going to give those small features which are not listed in most sites, but make me very happy to own the iPhone
Whenever am listening songs on the iPhone and there is a call, the song volume does not end abruptly. The volume decreases gradually and then the ring tone is made audible. The same holds good if there is an incoming message or an outgoing call. Least intrusive :)
All of you might have heard that you cannot transfer files via Bluetooth. Yes, you cannot transfer files via bluetooth to another device (unless it is an Apple iPhone or iPod). I have no complaints regarding that. The iPhone is designed this way so that no virus comes in or goes out of it. Also, iPhone is a fully functional smart device. Sharing songs/files need to be done the elegant way (emails). So we must stop viewing the iPhone as a data storage device. It will make the device sound less personal :)
The iPhone remembers sound settings for speaker and headphone mode. So, if you are watching a movie with more volume in speaker mode and later on plug in your earphones, you do not get the same sound blasting in your ears. The iPhone detects that headphones have been plugged in, and the volume is reduced to the setting which was set when using the headphones previously. Smart engineering?
When sending or receiving messages from friends, the iPhone takes care to arrange all messages by a person as a single chat or conversation, just as we have when we open up an instant messenger. We are no more bothered to scroll up and down in inbox and open each message to read.
I can make voip calls, just as in yahoo messenger, right from my iPhone connected to a WiFi.
The iPhone follows the theory - If you dont have an assigned place for something, dont place it on the iPhone. What it means is, the handset does not alow you to simply copy files somewhere and carry them with you. Pictures go in Photos, songs and movies go in iPod. Documents stay in mails until you view them. You will not download a file temporarily and use it at a later point in time. Though there are hacks for doing that, that is not professional way of organizing things.
Ringtones are not fancy or wacky. They are non-intrusive but efficient. The reason I say this is - Suppose you are in a meeting with a VVIP and forget to put your phone in silent mode. If your phone rings, the ringtones are such that they do not embarrass you due to their loud or fancy feeling. Also, the alarm tones do not make you jump out of bed with red eyes. They wake you up. Period.
The accelerometer just makes you go gaga, be it just viewing photos or playing a game. They are sensitive enough and work the way we think.
Though these features maybe available in many features today, iPhone was the one who thought it through. These and many other small features make me feel iPhone can only invite competition rather than being a competitor.
