In recent times, multiplexes have sprung up in each and every part of Mumbai. And of these multiplex is Apsara Multiplex.
Apsara Multiplex is located at Lamington Road and it is very close to Grant Road Railway Station. Currently, Apsara is one of the two multiplex in South Mumbai. The building where the multiplex is built consists of multiplex and a mall. The ground floor, 1 st floor, 2nd floor and 3 rd floor has been occupied by the Apsara Mall, which is going to be opened soon. On the fourth floor is the multiplex and canteen. On the fifth floor is the Toilet and the entrance to ‘Box’. Apsara also has ample parking space.
Usually, a multiplex has a ‘Box Office’ window where you can do both, Advance Booking as well as Current Booking. But in Apsara Multiplex, the picture is somewhat different. Here there are two separate windows, one for Current Booking and one for Advance Booking! The rates of tickets here are not very high. The lowest rate is just Rs.40 while the highest rate is Rs.120. So, every class of people throng here to watch movies.
Here, one has to use the elevator to go to the multiplex. The elevator is 3 times wider and 2 times longer than the normal lift!! It can carry 50-60 people at a time! It is one of the speciality of Apsara Multiplex!!
The multiplex consists of 3 screens. Outside very screen, there is a paper stuck which gives information about which movie is running in the screen and also the rates of each show.
The canteen has all the things, which are available in other multiplexes-Samosa, Different types of sandwiches, Soft Drinks, Tea, Coffee, Pop-Corn, Wafers, Mineral Water etc. Along with all these food, Chaat dishes and Potato Chips are also available! Such dishes are not available in every theatre. But all the dishes are reasonably priced. The canteen-area is very beautifully decorated. It is very large and therefore, even if two screens has interval at the same time, the area would not look crowded.
The seats in the screens are very relaxing. The picture quality is normal. The staff is very helpful and co-operative.
But Apsara Multiplex also has the following drawbacks:
1.The location is the biggest shortcoming of Apsara Multiplex. The multiplex is located near two single screen cinema theatres, Minerva and Novelty. Both these theatres are on each side of Apsara Multiplex. Apsara, being a multiplex, most of the moviegoers prefer to go to Apsara, because of which Minerva and Novelty run with half-empty shows.
2.The sound-system here is not at all perfect. During songs, it becomes too loud, causing pain to the ears.
3.Ticket blacking is rampant here! The black ticket sellers sell the tickets just outside the gate but the security guards, who stand just a few distance away does not even try to stop their business!
4.The interior décor of the screen is such that it does no look like a multiplex!
On the whole, Apsara Multiplex is a nice, reasonable theatre. It is recommended for families, friend circles, and all type of people. But if you are expecting it to be like Fame Adlabs or Inox, then you are wrong.
