Id just like to share some facts about the computer course(DISM) at Aptech I partook in some time ago during college. They hooked me by some online marketing campaign where they told me I had won a discount for the course available for a limited time only. I wasnt smart enough then to understand this was all rubbish. I hadnt won anything. It was just a clever marketing ploy to induce a feeling of urgency into an unsure or indecisive customer.
They (the Aptech councillors) did not make an effort to give me a proper description of the course. The course which was supposed to take one year stretched on for twice the amount of time it was supposed to take. I later learned that they had just introduced the course for the first time and had not bothered to check the amount of time it would take to teach it to us even though the brochure and ads claimed they would complete it in one year. Furthermore, the faculty even arrived late for each class, wasting our time further. Of course, the faculty rarely had any idea what they were talking about and had very little subject knowledge themselves. If they really were good programmers theyd be working in a large software firm.
From the first moment onwards, it was all about the money.Thats all they were bothered about. They even delayed giving us some of our books by a few months. The condition of the ACs was really bad as they were rarely serviced, making it uncomfortable for us in the summer. Their labs were overcrowded and their computers were often not working, often making us sit four or more at one computer. They kept on creating new batches and admitting new students without caring about the conditions of the existing batches. A few people from the main office who called themselves quality control came to our class once to discuss our problems but they only kept on blaming us for all the problems our batch faced, including the delay of books, by telling us we werent proactive enough.
My advice - dont go there! Ask the ex-students how they liked it first. If you want to study computer software, buy a couple of books like C or C++, buy or borrow the software and try to write a few programs yourself. If you find you like it and are good at it, then take up a professional course like BSc.IT or B.E or B.Tech. But please dont blow 15, 000 rupees at a private institute whose diplomas arent even recognized abroad.
