Take, impending doom, throw in an overprotective father, add humour, excitement and amazing special effects … stir for a while and hey presto … you’ve got Armageddon, the best disaster movie in years!
For those of you who haven’t watched this movie as yet, Armageddon is a disaster movie with a slight difference. Normally we have movies with the odd asteroid, aliens, mad scientists, volcanoes & aeroplanes. This time we have an asteroid, the size of Texan hurtling towards dear old Earth and there’s only 18 days to do something about it. The problem is … what can be done to avert the end of the world? Answer, NASA wants to drill holes in the asteroid & put a nuclear warhead in it. The nuke would have to be put in the middle of the rock & sunk to the depth of 800 feet. The next problem is that astronauts fly spacecraft & walk in space … they don’t drill holes in rocks that are floating in space! Answer, get Bruce Willis & his crew of riggers to drill the hole & plant the nuke. There you go problem solved & movie over! Or is it? …
NASA has to train this motley crew of misfits & nut cases to be astronauts, or is it astro-nuts?! Whatever they are to be called, they have to be trained for space travel & the wonders of space. Our heroes have drilled holes in all kinds of conditions; all over the world, but they need to be prepared for space & what it holds. This is where some serious fun begins & a lot of headaches for the regular astronauts. Training a bunch of misfits is easier said than done, but it will be done… or will it?
The whole time that the film is revolving around the training of our heroes, smaller chunks of rock are raining down on Earth, causing widespread death & destruction all around the world. Can our heroes save the planet by blowing up the rock, nicknamed.. Dottie? Will they get passed training? Will this op never end? What’s the lottery numbers for tonight? Most of these questions can be answered by watching the film! You never know, you might just enjoy watching a bunch of loonies training to be astro-nuts! You might even enjoy watching all the amazing special effects that run the whole way through the film! You will definitely enjoy seeing a bit of mayhem in America!
My thoughts on watching the film were that this is a totally great film, saturated with brilliant special effects, great acting from Brucie-baby & the rest & well worth watching! What are you waiting for? … go get it & enjoy!
