Aromas of China is a little place on double road that is owned by the BJN Group. When you enter the place you’re greeted by a beautiful hostess who shows you to your seat and ensures you are all settled in. The place immediately strikes me as, well interesting, the ambience feels slightly crowded and at peak hour the place can almost become cacophonous. There are mirrors all over the place to give us the illusion of space that doesn’t really work.
But I don’t go here to sit around looking pretty – I go to EAT! For all gastronomes this is one place that falls into the “must try out” category. The food is not an assault on your senses but filled with aroma and flavor, not concealing taste with excessive spice! This is not just another Chinese restaurant, it is different – how? – well it has to be experienced to figure that one out.
As for recommendations – I would start with appetizers like Mangolian chicken, crispy knoje lamb, spicy fried chicken, chicken wothibs or golden fried prawns. Ask for the black pepper sauce to go with the wothibs – it is scrumptious!
Now to the main course – American chopsuey, steamed rice or fried rice with gravies like roast lamb in devil sauce (if you like some spice!).
For dessert – Go for the honey crispy noodles in ice cream – drooool!
As for the booze – be warned its about 200 bucks a pop.
Writing this on my weekend afternoon is making me drool all over the keyboard – I need food – but it’s only ten in the morning, darn! The prices range from 150 to 300 per dish but it’s worth it! I think its value for money and the service is exceptional. They treat you like a king there – even if you are not a regular and if you have a grievance you probably get dessert for free!
Finally, be forewarned, this place is addictive, so make sure you make a reservation, especially if you are going there for dinner. Bon Apetit!
