Finally some non-witchical kid on the right path, not remotely the buddhist ’middle path’ but a path which bleevs modern technology can pawn all sorts of fairy magic if the mastermind behnd is bad as* enough.
Here’s how the story goes, Artemis immediate heir of the once famously criminal Fowl lineage, vows to restore family ’glory’ .. in the process he hs to fool his mum so that she dont send him to study with nicey-nicey and mediocre kids in school and fool a myriad of people through the internet and across the world to get to the book of fairies, which he believes is his license to the legendary fairy gold..
Sounds Juvenile, doesnt it ?

Consider this. Artemis, the Second uses a computer algorithm to translate the fairy runes of the book and figures out that ancient egyptian heiroglyphs were actually derived from an ancient race of mythical creatures tht far predated humans.

Artemis Fowl, gains knowledge of the secret fairy world and LEPrecon fairy law enforcement units realise the threat he poses a threat not just to their gold but also the ancient abstraction of their underground world from our own. Now Artemis is a real bad guy, so he kidnaps a LEPrecon one captain Holly Short, so that he can grill and bully her for the knowledge of the gold. Now there is always that initial ’culture shock’ the LEPrecon finds it unbelievable tht human beings goto toilet in their own house (somethng to think about), and Artemis finds it hard to accept that fairies live underground.
The humor is swashbuckling, original and witty, and not just for drain_bamaged minds. The writing style is unbelievably easy and involving. The charachterization is well .. awesome.
This Eoin Colfer guy has a freshness and a true knack for story telling. I hope I could make money like him out of writing ..
