When there is a thriller, being made by Gulshan Rai and Rajiv Rai, the names which hit our minds are Mohra and Gupt. They have given Bollywood such excellent thriller films that you will always have high expectations from their thrillers. Same was the case with the much hyped Asambhav-The Impossible. By watching such excellent trailers anyone could have thought this film to be a Gupt-Part2, but sorry, the film fails to be even half as exciting as their previous thrillers. So what if the film is stylish and beautiful from outside? The fact remains the same that the film is as ugly from inside. So, what went wrong with the film?
THE FILM:
Trimurti Films.Pvt.Ltds Asambhav, directed by Rajiv Rai, stars Naseerudin Shah, Arjun Rampal, Priyanka Chopra, Shahwar Ali, Mohan Agashe, Milind Gunaji, Mukesh Rishi, Tej Sapru and Dipannita Sharma. We had been watching a muscular Arjun Rampal doing exercise in the trailors with split screens. The trailors were looking surely exciting but the film turns out to be disappointing. After watching the film, you might wonder what has happened to Trimurti Films.
THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:
1.Sam Hans(Naseerudin Shah):Sam Hans, is one such person who is involved with the ISI officials. He is a non-fearing person who believes that he can turn an impossible task into a possible one. He is stylish, cool and of course someone who is involved with terrorists. Naseerudin Shah, is the only one who has given a good performance in this film.He has lots of screen presence even after so many years working in films. When he is there on the screen, he completely overshadows all the other actors. He is the show-stealer. His villanious act is brilliant!
2.Aadit Arya(Arjun Rampal):Aadit is an undercover detective who is off to solve a mission called Asambhav. What is this mission Asambhav?Arjun Rampal, is not given the chance to show his acting talents in this film, at all.The only task he has been given in this film, is of flexing his muscles. Agreed, that he has strong muscles and can do action scenes very well, but what more? He was supposed to be the protagonist of the film, so why is his role not so strong? Let`s hope that he gets a chance to show how well he acts, in his forthcoming releases.
3.Alisha(Priyanka Chopra):Alisha is a wannabe pop-singer, who sings at night clubs. She dreams of being a big pop-star and of course she is the love interest of Aadit Arya. Priyanka Chopra has again been wasted after films like Plan and Kismat. Why does she have to look glamorous and sexy in every film of hers. Why is she never given so much of importance in her films? This remains a mystery. Well, never mind because there is always a second chance. She has a meatier role in her next release Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. In this movie, she does what any other actress could have done.
The rest are no less. They also look disinterested! Mukesh Rishi, as Yuzan Baksh does the same what he has been doing since so many years. There is nothing great about him, still he manages to give a bit more decent performance than others.Milind Gunaji as Ansari is okay dokay.Shawar Ali as Mabros gets no scope to perform, at all.All he does is making the worst and the most evil face expressions. Mohan Agashe as Vir Pratap Singh and Dipanita Sharma as Kinjal are terribly wasted.
THE STORY:
The film starts with the President of India, Vir Pratap Singh spending holidays with his daughter Kinjal, in Switzerland. Both the president and his daughter are kidnapped by Mabros, in the hotel they are staying. Mabros is one of the men of the ISI, which consists of Ansari and other of his companions, who are associated with another gang of terrorists Al-Hamas, which is headed by Yuzan Baksh. As they are Pakistanis and Muslims, they will definitely want to harm the President of India along his daughter, so now they are in the clutches of these Muslim and Pakistani terrorists.
Sam Hans, is another partner of the ISI group, who also supplies drugs. These drugs are supplied through a struggling singer, Alisha. The most brilliant detective, Aadit Arya is handed over this mission which is given the name of Mission Asambhav (Mission Impossible). Without letting anyone know his true identity, Aadit Arya flies off to Switzerland as a journalist. In this way, he tries to get to know where the President and his daughter are taken. His goal is to get both of them escaped. There, Aadit Arya also falls in love with Alisha, where as he also tries to know many things through Sam Hans. By all the investigations, so far, he comes to know that someone in the Indian embassy in Switzerland has also joined hands with the ISI group and Al-Hamas group. Who is he? Where is the President and his daughter? Will Captain Aadit Arya be able to solve the mission?
THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Rajiv Rai, as the director, this time fails to interest the viewers or at least, excite the viewers. It seems as if he has done nothing for the film and the only person who has done something for the film is the cinematographer. How terribly has the director misused such a big project.Rajiv Rai was one such director who used to handle thrillers so well. What happened to him, this time? When the film begins, you get the feeling of watching a good film, but it is only from the second scene that you start realising how wrong you were. You just don`t understand why the ISI has kidnapped the President and his daughter. There is no solid reason behind anything.
So many scenes could have been made interesting but there are only Hollywoodish action scenes in the movie. The only better scenes are those between Sam Hans and Aadit Arya. The climax is the worst of all, in recent times. The most horrilble way to end a film!
Screenplay is poor.First of all, there are so many characters, and that also villains. After every second, a new villain appears, making you think that how many more are to come. Thus, there is no justice done to any character.
Script is really outdated.Where the Indo-Pak relationships are getting better day by day, there is so much of Pak bashing shown here.Besides that, there is no interesting scene, at all. There are so many questions, which remain undefined when you enter the hall. You will think that why is Sam Hans doing this all and why he is involved with the terrorists.Plus, the romance between Aadit and Alisha is really half-baked.It was just a waste of time. Also, already there were so many problems in the movie, that they forced one more problem-someone in the Indian embassy involved in this plan. There was no need to add, this track in the plot.
Special Effects and Action are the best, witnessed in Bollywood, in the recent times. The action scenes are shown in a very stylized way, in split screens, which has been experimented with for the first time in Bollywood.
