I am working in IT sector in systems side. I took a connection from Asianet one year before. My wife also needs connection from home for her work. Asianet is the most unreliable connection available today I will say. There cost is comparable with other service providers, but the service reliability is no way near other service providers. And the support also tests our patience at times.
Within this one year we had to call the support N number of times asking to fix the issue. Like most people said here, we can not predict or at-least hope that we will have net connection when we switch on the modem. We have to pray to god and switch on the modem to see connection is there when we have some urgent work to do from home. They have three numbers for tech support. When we call sometime we wont be able to get through.
Once we had the issue with connection and I called them. Each time a lady (recorded) will say welcome to Asianet and all that stuff and after that it will go mute. After trying 5 times only I could figure out that we were actually on hold after the welcome message. How are we supposed to know that we are on hold without them telling us??? After a rain usually connection wont be there. This happens because there cables come all the way overhead connection and no under ground cabling like DSL (BSNL/Airtel). The speed is also not upto mark. I suspect lot of breaks in the cabling. Once the total service was down for 3 days in Karyavattom area. They said some local cable guys cut their cables and damage their equipment. What all happen, end of the day we are the ones who suffer.
The office where I worked earlier in technopark had an Asianet connection and Airtel connection. The Airtel connection was rock solid that it never went out once. Asianet did the same thing there. We were able to survive since we had the Airtel connection as backup. The issue is they do not cover all areas here in Tvm. I really miss my Airtel connection that I used in Chennai which was rock solid and had a professional support team with service guarantee.
I am not going to complain again since I am planning to drop this connection after one month. What I need is a connection that is reliable. Cuts and breaks once in a while is understandable since we all know that technology is not perfect. But connection going out after each rain/wind and thrice a week is not tolerable. So my humble advice is that, if you have some serous work, need a reliable connection and have some other option, never go for Asianet. If you want to check mail, chat, social network once in a while then you can go for their low end plans like 199 plan. I am in homenet 880 plan. Bill comes around 950 Rs. Speed was 384 Kbps, now its 512 Kbps I guess. But will never get that much speed.
Thanks and Regards
