Surprise Surprise!

Anu malik seems to be a highly unpredictable man for you never know whats he gonna come up with.If he can give atrocious music for the over-hyped Yaadein he can give you a surprise in Asoka.I wasn’t expecting such nice and innovative music from Anu malik.Asoka is really a good album with extremely good music by Anu Malik and lyrics by Gulzar(Though the music of Asoka is reminiscent of Rehman’s music, but that does not mean you take credit away from Anu malik for this great musical score).

The album comprises of seven tracks, including a theme music.

It starts of with SAN SANANA SAN, a sensuous song sung equally sensuously by Alka Yagnik and Hema Sardesai. It is the only song which has lyrics by Anand Bakshi. This song doesn’t catch your attention at first but slowly it grows on u.This song reminds me a lot of HAI RAMA from Rangeela.

RAAT KA NASHA is easily the best song of the album. It is a haunting song and I just love it.It is in two versions , one is a solo and the other is a duet sung by Abhijeet and Chitra. But I prefer the solo version coz Chitra has sung it beautifully yet seductively..RAAT KA NASHA is one of the best song I have listened to off-late.(But can anybody tell me whether Kareena kapoor is supposed to be playing a vamp in the film, coz she is looking like one in this song.)

ROSHNI SE sung by Abhijeet and Alka yagnik is a slow romantic number and is pleasing to the ears. What makes this song stand out is the way it has been sung , and the lyrics are also great.Beautiful song.

O RE KANCHI reminds me of some R.D.Burman song from Caravan. This song sounds like some Banjara song and has been sung with lots of vigour by Shaan and Alka yagnik. It has got a catchy and lively tune and you tend to like the song instantly.

ASOKA THEME is composed by Sandeep Chowta(of Kambakt ishq fame)who seems to have mastered in giving background scores and theme music. So this seems to be no exception.

The album ends with Aa tayar hoja(I dunno what it really means)sung by Sunidhi chauhan. It is just an average song, nothing special. If you want you can skip this one.

So on the whole ASOKA has some really good music and it is a classy album, and though it is not in the league of LAGAAN and DIL CHAHTA HAI(which according to me are the best album of the year)it is definately worth a buy.

I am not waiting for this film , neither I am gonna watch it coz I cannot stand Sharukh and the equally over-rated Kareena but music of the film is something i’ll recommend you coz it is really good and good things do not come easily.
