Two things facinate me.good food & cars.I have been readingMouthshut for a while and I should say that it had helped me to choose my car/restuarants. So here I am writing my very first review.
At Siam(Siam.Thailands older name) is a Thai restaurant at Kotivakkam beach.facing the beach. To identify it better.its close to Bella Ciao(for those who know the Italian restaurant). At Siam is an open air restaurant; some tables(surrounded by coconut trees) face the sky, while some of them are inside the tiled roofing.
I happen to visit the restaurant on Jan 9, 2010(the day it was opened) along with my friend who had been into the catering world since completing his high school(currently working with me.leading IT Company) was a connoisseur of foods(not great.he was.when it came to Thai food; but those who have guessed ir right.he was a giant in size) and would love to visit a new restaurant/cusine(and has no patience/time(dont know which one) to write review).so here we were.At Siam:)
We started with Tom Yum Goong(Prawn) Soup.arguably one of the most popular Thai dishes worldwide.we loved it!; Tom Yum Goong is also an action movie by TonY Jaa.for those who have seen in on TV. Coming back to our menu.we ordered Todd Munn-Pla(Fish).deep fried fish garnished with sweet chilli sauce, Som Tom -Veg(green papaya salad with peanuts, dressed with lime and other vegetables), Satay Ghai(Chicken).grilled chicken with peanut sauce.my favourite.it became. We got some veg spring rolls & stir-fried & crispy vegetables(I dont remember the name).ascompliments from the Chef.perhaps for the first day! The salads and appetizers were really good.
We ordered for Pad Thai(stir-fried noodles(we opted for choice of chicken) another popular Thai food), Steamed rice, Green Curry.choice of prawns, Steamed fish with garlic and chilli sauce, lime(I forgot the Thai name for the dishes!).all the above tasted good.and we wished that the quantity can be a little more. Perhaps the Thai food(unlike southindian food) doesnt fills up the stomach, even if we eat more.is another argument.
The bill came to about Rs. 800 and odd.which IMHO was a great value for money. Esp. considering the dishes we ate and the cuisine being a speciality one.
Now for the cons.the ambience is moderate, the waiting time for certain specific menu items was lengthy period of time(almost 20 minutes).
The waiters arent good when asked to suggest Thai food.thankfully a Thai lady (came to know.that she setup the Thai restaurant) came to our rescue when we ordered the main course. Also one need to ask for the bill and wait for almost 10 minutes. Mind that they do not accept credit cards(when asked.the machine would be up next week Sir.was the reply).for a person like me.its a pain to empty cash and stand before the ATM everytime.
I also have to say that some of the chairs are old-fashioned arm chairs(at least the one I was sitting).which doesnt give one a relaxed posture(especially with the beach in the foreground/theme). Otherwise I should say.the food was really good, and we had fun!
Hope my review was useful; shall be writing again soon.
