What does it take to bring a failed production team, an almost forgotten actor and a clueless music director back into limelight? the answer is, one really big movie. that is exactly what athadu is all about. a really hit movie demands a really amazing script and when you dont get one, you just steal a few scripts, do some mixing and matching and the new script is ready. tumko na bhool paayenge, is the name of the hindi movie from which most of the script is taken. there are a few scenes and ideas which have been inspired from the matrix, romeo must die, face off and U.S. marshalls.
The Plot:
The movie is about a hired assassin named Nandagopal(played by mahesh babu), who likes to do his killings in style(out in the open, with real good precision). Shivareddy a politician hires Nandu to shoot him and miss him on purpose, by doing this he plans to get the sympathy of the public and win the next elections. Nandu and his assistant Malli plan the murder and the get away with great care, but then all of a sudden, just when nandu is about to shoot at Shivareddys shoulder, another bullet hits shivareddy in the forehead killing him instantly. nandu tries to escape in his get away car, but the car meets with an accident just before nandu could get out of the building and into the car. the cops surround the building and nandu escapes by jumping of the building on to moving train, (remember that scene from U.S. marshalls). in the train, our hero meets up with parthasarathy(played by rajeev kanakala). parthu is a contractor from gujrath who ran away from home, when he was a kid and after 12 years he decides to come home. parthu tells nandu his story and they begin talking when the train pulls into a railway station. a cop on the station identifies nandu by his shirt and tries to bring him down but the bullet missies its target and hits parthu in the neck(unfortunately, he is not blessed with the precision our hero has). well now that parthu is dead and nandu is to be blamed, nandu goes to baasarlapudi(partus home town), and pretends that he is parthu. there he meets up with Poori(the heroine of the movie with a ridiculous name, played by thrisha). he falls in love with her and with everyone of parthus family. the rest of the movie is for you guys to see in the theatre.
Opinions:
The script of the movie is really good(after all, it is a mix and match of every good movie of this decade). Heavy metal music is making its way into telugu movies and this is seen a lot in this movie. The distorted guitaring and hard rock style drumming are the highlights of the movies soundtracks. Athadu is a special effects movie, the FX team at Prasad FX have done a really good job with the animation and other effects. The most impressive effects are seen in the showdown in a church(very Face Off). X-Ray images of bones breaking under the impact of the blows(i think the team of romeo must die, should get the credit for this idea), flying kicks and a lot of bullets(just like neo in the Matrix) are some of the good scenes in the movie. Athadu is a timepass movie, a movie you can watch once and only once.
