Rating: Full Timepass
0Plot: The only line that was missing in the credit roll was –
“In this movie, the jokes would’ve been impotent, this credit roll blank and this movie on the whole would have been impossible, if not for the male reproductive organ.”
‘Austin Powers’ (played by Mike Myers) was never about having a plot; it was only about bizarre humour and over the top spoofs. But hey, that’s what keeps it “GROOVY BAIBEE”. And that’s probably why you must see this movie, if you like this kind of humour!
This time Austin’s arch nemesis Dr. Evil (again Myers) resurfaces after 3 years with another glorious plot to destroy the Earth. It’s a simple idea—cause a meteor to hit the North Pole, which will cause the ice to melt, and the resulting flood will wipe out everything on Earth.
Dr Evil has teamed up with a mad Dutchman (Myers yet again), with a golden you-know-what and his cronies include -- his tiny clone Mini Me (Verne Troyer), Number Two (Robert Wagner), Frau Farbissna (Mindy Sterling), and his son Scott (Seth Green).
Austin’s female counterpart is agent Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyonce Knowles from Destiny’s Child) and together they also have to save Austin’s father -- Nigel Powers (Michael Caine).
Miss the movie if you don’t like this brand of humour, but don’t ever miss the first 5 minutes, where you’ll get to see some very high profile cameos and a very funny dance sequence.
Side Plot: Spoofy as it may be, there’s pain in every relationship. Deep within Austin Powers there still exists the sorrow that his dad was never there for him in his formative years. Another song and dance sequence describing this personal misery is sheer joy for every viewer. Other side plots include Mike Myer’s yet again as the ‘Fat Bastard’ and also a good dose of gay humour.
Whistle when: The anti-Dutch lines may be racist, but they are unbelievably funny. Similar humour aimed at our locales Oranjes, would have had devastating reactions.
There’s also a great ‘Farjher’ routine, that’ll leave you saying ‘Farjher, Farjher’ long after you get out from the theatre.
Go to the loo when: No need to, unless your bladder can’t take all the shameless assault of golden Pee-Js!
Starring: Mike Myers (x4), Beyonce Knowles, Seth Green, Michael York, Robert Wagner, Mindy Sterling, Verne Troyer (Mini Me), Michael Caine, Fred Savage.
Director: Jay Roach (maker of the other 2 Austin Power movies and also the incredibly funny—Meet The Parents)
