I did a bit of shopping around for flight to Sydney and eventually settled for Austrian Air - it is the cheapest from the Kuala Lumpur-Sydney sector - especially considering that the airport tax is a whopper.
I had a significant savings of about USD200 after comparing all other airlines and so I booked in. Naturally I am only an Economy flyer ... but I got good seats as a Star Alliance member.
The crew were very friendly and most of the flight was spent half asleep as it takes off from Kuala Lumpur at 5:15am (local time) and arrives in Sydney 15:15pm (local time).
The meals are pretty interesting even the childrens meal as I had my 6 year old travelling with me.
Throughout the 7 hour flight the crew was on the go and I would know this from drifting in and out of sleep.
The movie selections are pretty decent and so are the music selections on the personal screens that each passenger has. However the Games section may need some improvement.
The return crew were even more friendlier than the going crew and many stopped over to chat with my 6 year old about her Sydney trip. They kept her happy with the kiddie pack and also little tidbits ...
Having a seat at the end of the first economy cabin means
you get to lean back your seat and stretch out and not hinder anyone else
you get an excellent view of the toilet if its left open
The crews were efficient in ensuring the toilets were kept clean and dry and the doors closed after inconsiderate passengers leave it a jar in your face.
Its value for money. The flights comfortable. The food good and the entertainment sufficiently good for a 7hour flight ... and the flight gets you into Sydney when theres still some day left to spent and out after one last final walk around Darling Harbour ...
Id pick Austrian Air again next visit down under. No questions asked.
