Friends Cheran’s previous venture AUTOGRAPH was a sure treat for the youngsters who are afected by lovephobia. This movie has been recognized on a national level in the way its got to be. Now lets move on to his present venture. Friends falling in love with a beautiful girl, marrying her and leading a sofesticated life has got no meaning unless you keep your parents happy in their final stages of life. This is the theme of THAVAMAI THAVAMIRUNDU. I should certainly assert the fact that THAVAMAI THAVAMIRUNDU = 2 X AUTOGRAPH in terms of collection, quality, centiments, performance and re-recording.
Rajkiran (Muthaiyah) is a middle class individual who runs a printing press and sacrifices his sleep, dignity, and personal welfare to satisify even the smallest wishes of his kids. This is the concept which Cheran tries to mention at the start. Though the screenplay is lengthy, Cheran hits a SIX at the start itself, fullfilling our expectations after autograph. Cheran is the second son of Rajkiran, and a new commer Senthil is his elder brother in the film. Rajkiran starts to borrow money to ensure the education of his kids and finaly they grow up. Cheran as a college student falls in love with Padmapriya while Senthil is married to a Meenal who is another new commer. The scenes related to the spicy verbal conflict between Saranya (as Cheran’s mom) and Menal makes the audience burst into laughter and becomes into a subject to be applauded.
Meanwhile, Padmapriya gets concieved while she was in love and knowing this Cheran elopes with her to Chennai. Then the story moves as to how Rajkiran and Saranya are hurted by his elder and younger son’s deeds. At the third phase Cheran returns to his home town and re unites with his parents. Then things become more positive as Cheran becomes rich, and the more he became rich the more he showed love and affection to his parents. His parents showed the same kind of love and affection to his kids. Then came the climax which was filled with full of tear jerking centiments, which is not worth narrating but worth feeling. Though the style of narration resembled AUTOGRAPH, the concept stressed is revolutionary, touching, and worth following.
Cheran, being the captain of the ship, has scripted a classy novel in the silver screen and so will the movie be a silver jubilee. His rural essence, will impress even the so called YO YO’S (the urbans). The art work and cinematography will have an impression, that we are watching a real incident in Madurai. Another important aspect in this movie is music.
Sabesh-Murali, who are one of the best known professional re-recorders in Kollywood, who have worked under Music directors, Deva, A.R. Rehman, Bharatwaj, have shown their experiance of working under these stalwarts. Their background score is full of rural and carnatic essence. Though they have used very few instruments such as violin, veena, and few soft beats here and there, the style of composition is sure to fetch them a few awards in the near future.
Rajkiran’s premiere performance needs a special note. Most of the centimental scenes revolve around him and his body language throughout the movie is sure to win him another national award. His last words in the movie are sure to kindle our heart and dampen our eyes.
