Avalon is a band I stumbled onto. I’d listened to a couple of their songs in assorted tapes - Picture Perfect World in Apocalypse - the soundtrack (just an average song, and Can’t live a day in Wow 2000 - absolutely fabulous. I’d seen a couple of their tapes in stores, but wasn’t prepared to buy them....yet. Then one day a few of us drove down for a concert and he was playing an assorted CD with Testify to Love. Man that got me going. That night I read all about avalon and started pulling out random mp3s off the net. Very song just got better. And there I was in college with a newly procured album called In a Different Light blaring out through an 80 watt rickety system. I was so impressed with this album that I bought the CD for my sister’s birthday!!
The Music:Fabulous. Really friendly and catchy. Most are light. The spectrum is good - you got soulful ballads and rhytm pumping dance tracks with haunting melodies.
The Vocals: Incredible! They blend really well in all the numbers. The vocals on the solos are terrific
The Lyrics: To me this is what matters most... and avalon delivers really beautiful meaningful https://lyrics. They have a heart for God!! I’ve included sample lyrics in the review to let you know what I mean.

A lively way to kick off this album it has a fade-in vocal intro that then merges with a rocking drum beat and some electric guitar with some techno electronic sound in the background.

This is the song I listened to in the store and it pushed me to buy it. A haunting number with a sax in the background and asoft mood to it, the blending vocals and smooth changes in the scale make this song cool.

In a Different Light
Took me a little time to get used to this song. There is rapid switching between 2 scales that was a little difficult to adjust to, but again the feet-tapping beat gets you going.

Move over Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey! Enter Avalon. This song is a fabulous solo!!!! The vocals on this are the best I’ve ever heard. That ain’t no joke. Crystal clear the whole way. This number could have featured in a diva collection with the rest of the female music artists.

Fantastic guitaring in the background lend a punch to this song. The vocals are great (as usual). I can’t put my finger on why I luv this song, but....it’s cool!

Speechless
Nope - this ain’t Steven Curtis! (Jus’ kiddin’.) Just when you think they can’t sustain the mood, Avalon continues with style on this number - a blend of vocals and some electronic sound. Got a cool bridge too.

Another ballad that excels. It’s lyrics run deep and the music as usual is fantabulous (if there’s such a word)

An average song that is less impressive than the other numbers...The changes in tempo and scale appear a little forced and aren’t that smooth.

Put on those dancing shoes. You’ve seen Steps on MTV and this song reminds me of that. A 100% dance track, the song gets your feet-tapping.

Sometimes I like , sometimes I don’t! That’s the nature of this song. Kinda drones on - it’s peaceful. Some bits of vocal fusion on this mumber excel. I’m listening to the song now and actually like it! Can’t make up my mind.

First Love
A perfect ending. This powerful ballad features great male vocals. It’s very meaningful - applies to my life so much. This is the most touching song in the whole album. Closes the album in a very prayerful mood.

The album is a complete musical experience. There’s no hard rock or rap in it. Buy it if you’re looking for some great music and meaningful lyrics
