Offers comfort in the familiar

Will it make a 200 billion opening? Will the Hulk smash the villain upside down once again? Will Captain America spin his shield and mesmirize the crowds? Will Iron Man and Thor shed their vanity and re-unite the dysfunctional Avengers canon and Make Age Of Ultron as thunderously exciting as the original?

(The answer to that is No.)

What the neg-heads are missing about Age Of Ultron is how much fun it is. How deftly whedon blends the dark and the comic. How swiftly its superheroes team up for the rescue mission and pump up the action.

Age of Ultron is muddled with some untidy action which falls surprisingly flat on the whole. But still, this movie does manage to pull of some decent spectacle value.

What do you need to know? That Tony Stark/Iron Man(quipmaster Robert Downey Jr.) has f*cked up, big-time. His peacekeeping program, Ultron, has turned into a machine of artificial intelligence(motion-captured and voiced by James Spader) intent on destroying every human on the planet. So The Avengers, including Thor(Chris Hemsworth) Captain America(Chris Evans) Hulk( Mark Ruffalo) Black Widow(Scarlett Johansson) and a superb Hawk-Eye played by Jeremy Renner team up for the rescue mission.

Joss Whedon brings on the newbies. There’s the twins, Quicksilver(Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch(Elizabeth Olsen). And there’s the villain Ultron voiced menacingly by James Spader.

What to watch out for? A superb backstory of Hawk-Eye that gives the film a surprising dramatic heft.

What’s not to? The new-bies and Ultron, the movies ultimate foe that needed to fire on all cylinders but didn’t.

But still, compared to all the crap thats out there, this movie does pull off some jump-off-your-seat moments.

Like that fabulous scene where Whedon shows off his quick wittedness by showing Capt. America, Dr. Banner, Stark and Hawk Eye tries to lift Thor’s hammer and fails to do so.

Its for moments like those we crave for Whedon and his band of superheroes wearing bodey-tight suits.

I give Age Of ultron 3 out of 5.
