What a Waste!

Aaj kal lagta hai Bollywood kee bad luck hee kharab chal reli hai maamu…

Pardon my half-baked attempt at Tapori lingo. What I wanted to say was, that Bollywood seems to be going through a real bad phase now days. There is a serious dearth of talented personnel especially in the female department. We haven’t found the right substitutes who could fill in the shoes of Madhuri, Juhi, Sridevi and Shabana.

Kajol seemed the next big thing, but sadly her film career was put to an immature end thanks to her marriage with Ajay Devgan. Something similar is on cards for the new Bollywood sensation Ayesha Takia.

According to media reports, she has a boyfriend named Farhaan, son of a big coal trader in Mumbai. She will be marrying him early next year and has informed her producers to finish the projects before March 2006 since she won’t be available for shooting after that. The guy’s family doesn’t want Ayesha to act in movies after marriage and she has also agreed to this clause of ending her Bollywood career.

To be honest I’m quite disappointed. She had the talent, attitude & beauty to become a big star and rule Bollywood. And for her promising career to finish so suddenly & abruptly is quite a shock to the film industry and the fans.

Starting her career last year with Tarzaan – The Wonder Car, her performance wasn’t exceptional but was indeed satisfactory considering she was a beginner. Then came Dil Maange More. The movie bombed at the box office, but the confident screen presence of Ayesha was there for everyone to see. But the movie which really got her fan following going was Socha Na Tha. She played the role of a girl-next-door to perfection and was able to win many hearts.

I haven’t yet seen her recent movie Shaadi No.1, but with the number of stars present in that movie, and the “scope” that actress get in David Dhawan films I doubt if she would have had a role of “substance”.

Her forthcoming films include Super, Home Delivery and Yun Hota To Kya Hota. So all the Ayesha fans out there, don’t miss these flicks because that may very well be the last of her on silver screen. It is quite sad to see a young shining star fade away much earlier than expected, but well that’s the way things go sometimes.

Let’s wish her, a happy married life in advance and also hope she is able to change the minds of her rigid husband & in-laws after marriage & would continue to work in films. That would be a happy news for the film industry and her thousands of fans. Bollywood can’t afford to lose a girl who can actually “act”, at a time when most other actresses are happy being a mere showpiece in the movies, with nothing more than a couple of dialogues, an item number or two, dance sequence around the trees and loads of skin show.

However, if the inevitable happens and she doesn’t come back (as is very likely right now), it would be a big waste of talent and beauty, not all are lucky enough to possess!
