Second in the trilogy of individuals who made a mark in their short life span and years after they are gone millions still remember them.
Aryton Senna was magic, he made car racing an art. Formula one is all about physics, there are computers collating millions of bits of data every minute, analyzing and guiding the driver in every possible way. Hard to differentiate between engines, chasis, tyres, what stands out is the individual at the helm. Drivers need to take split second decisions, a slight miscalculation could mean disaster. Senna was not just another driver, he was an artist. He was magic on the track, he stood out when he drove, his manoveours, tactics, breaking, strategy were beyond all. All formula one drivers dread the bad weather, rain is least welcome. When it rained Senna was the king of the track.
I saw his crash in San Marino live on TV in 1994, the high speed crash, the slight movement of his head giving hope to the millons that he was ok and then the sight of his limp body being pulled out still flashes before my eyes.
I didn’t feel like watching Formula one for quite some time but then I realized that this man would probably be the happiest if fans like me came back to the races and respect the challenge that the race throws to people like Senna.
No driver is close to Senna’s genius. I am yet come across one comparison any where in the racing world. He was a friends friend and one of the most generous sports person, donating millions of dollars to charities without ever staking a hint of a claim.
He is and will remain one of the greatest Sport idols.
Rest in Peace Senna, there are millions who remember the great human being that you were….
