"Kattappa ne Bahubali ko kyu maara? "
This is probably one question thats been circulating over the minds of cinegoers for the past two years.
But, Bahubali 2 is much more than just Kattappa.
It is one of those big budgeted movies that score high on drama, action sequences, cinematography and what not.
The movie begins exactly from where the first part ended. We are now introduced again to the world of Bahubali( Prabhas) where he is shown controlling an angered elephant( a whistle worthy entry sequence) . He falls for Dev Sena( Anushka shetty) while he is on a tour with kattappa( Sathyaraj) . Ballala deva( Rana Daggubatti) plans to marry DevSena and convinces his mother Sivgami( Ramya krishna) to send her a proposal which is royally rejected by DevSena later. Furious Sivagami orders for DevSenas arrest and what happens after that to the lives of Bahubali, DevSena, Sivagami, Ballala and the revenge of Mahendra Bahubali, Bahubalis son( played again by prabhas), forms the rest part of the story.
Clearly, the most standout performance for me, is that of Anushka Shetty. Shes a no nonsense women who stands firmly for her dignity. Her war of words with sivagami are outstanding.
Ramya krishna too has done her role to perfection. Her sequences in the film are highly dramatic.
Prabhas certainly wins your heart with his action sequences and delivers the most whistle worthy scenes in the entire movie.
Rana Daggubatti too is extremely powerful in the action sequences and is impressive as the cunning king along with his father.
Sathyaraj only excels in the action sequences as he appeared a little over the top for comedy.
Tamannaah Bhatia who plays the role of Avanthika, appears for not more than 60-80 secs and that too in splits.
Out of the many brilliant scenes in the film, the one that impressed me the most was a scene where Bahubali slits a warriors throat for molesting women.
There are a few action sequences that are presented in a typical south indian masala flavour such as using Coconut trees for launching soldiers in the air so that they can enter a castle!
Theres also a telescope like instrument used that gives a better zoom clarity than most DSLRs today. Also the junior artists give random loud expression at many ocassions that just adds to the humour unnecessarily.
TheDevSena song shouldve been trimmed from the movie as it only adds to the already lengthy runtime.
Direction is good. SS Rajamouli has helmed this movie with perfection and that is evident in almost every frame of this Magnum Opus.
verdict:
One should not miss out on watching Bahubali 2 in theatres as its a visual treat. With a lot of questions and satisfactory answers, drama and certainly the best VFX used in indian cinema, Bahubali 2 is a must watch.
3.5/5 stars!
