’’Can you depend on your family’’?!This is the question raised in this film and the film is all about this question!The film ’’Baghban’’, is there to answer all these questions!So, in Bollywood, we have been seeing so many emotional stories about ’parivaar’ and family, children, etc.To be frank, there is nothing much new and different in the film, ’’Baghban’’, but still it is a memorable one for plenty of reasons!There are emotions, entertainment, moments of joy and tears in this movie, for which many audiences have been waiting to see, since a long time!So, this is one family entertainer, out this week!
THE FILM:
BR Chopra`s ’’Baghban’’, is one of the most awaited film of the year!It is directed by Ravi Chopra and stars Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Mahima Chaudhary, Aman Varma, Sameer Soni, Nasir, Sahil, Suman Raganathan, Paresh Rawal, Lillette Dubey and Rimi Sen!With such agreat star cast and of course watching Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan, for the first time on the silver screen, are great reasons behind watching this movie, whose target audience is family audience!So, does it prove to be an entertainer?
THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:
1.Raj Malhotra(Amitabh Bachchan):He is loving and caring towards his wife and children, plus Raj Malhotra(Hey!This was SRK`s name in Amitabh Bachchan starrer film ’’Mohabbatein’’...) is a very lively person, romancing with his wife, even after being so old!Tragedy strikes, when he retires from his bank job and due to some circumstances, distances between him and his wife, come in between!Amitabh Bachchan was the best choice for the role of Raj Malhotra!How, Big B brings hapiness and then sadness into this character, is just excellent!It seems that this role was just and just made for Ambitabh Bachchan, because Amitabh Bachchan, in real is also very simple plus lively person like the character of Raj malhotra!So, all the Big B true fans, can watch him once again, the way they wanted to after being disappointed, in ’’BOOM’’!
2.Puja Malhotra(Hema Malini):Puja Malhotra, the wife of Raj malhotra, is traditional, sweet mother of four sons, and the best wife a husband can have!She is the key of her sweet family, who loves her sons and takes care of everything!In short, a true ’Indian wife’!Hema Malini has made a comeback in Bollywood, through this film!She was last seen in Kamal Hassan`s ’’Hey Ram’’, in a short role!Here she has a lengthy role, which she plays very well!She compliments Mr.Bachchan at every step and in emotional scenes, she is mindblowing!With giving such a nice performance, she also looks gorgeous in those lovely ’sarrees’ of her!She is much more beautiful than her daughter, and she looks so young in this film!Just check her out in ’’Chali Chali’’ and the Holi song!She is really a beauty!
3.Alok(Salman Khan):The adopted son of raj malhotra, Alok, respects both the husband and wife very mcuh!He is happily married, and now enters in the lives of Mr and Mrs Malhotra, when they are in the worst situation of their lives!Salman Khan doesn`t have a meaty role, in this film!He does his bit well, but when there is Big B in such a meaty role, he will be noticed!Well, Big B and Salman Khan are not being compared here, but this is a complete Amitabh Bachchan film!
Others, are excellent, to good to fair!Aman Varma as Raj Malhotra`s, eldest son, impresses!He has been given a meaty role, and performs very naturally, instead of just smiling, like he did in ’’Andaaz’’, and of the 4 sons, he has the meatiest role!Sameer Soni looks plastic faced and disinterested!Nasir is alright, where as Saahil Chhadha is passable!Mahima Chaudhary, is there to look glamorous, as there was no heroine in the film!Seriously, I was expecting that she will have a meaty role, in this film, after dancing on ’’O Jaana’’ of ’’Tere Naam’’, and having a special appearance in ’’Saaya’’, but no, here also she is just on the side and not on the front!Still, I`d say, that she is very talented(see ’’Lajja’’ or ’’Pardes’’), and she should sign roles of substance!Let`s hope she performs well, in Tanuja Chandra`s next film ’’Filmstar’’!Suman Raganathan is okay!May, I tell you something on which you will be remain shocked???Rimi Sen, (the actress of ’’Hungama’’), is playing the role of Aman Varma`s and Suman`s daughter!Paresh Rawal and Lillette Dubey, are excellent in a supporting role!I liked their dialogue, which was very touching:’’Agar aulaad aisi hoti hai to shukar hai ke humein aulaad nahin...’’!
THE STORY:
The pair like that of ’’Ram and Sita’’ is of Raj malhotra and Puja Malhotra!This is such a couple, whom you`ll see and say that this is a pair, ’made for each other’.There is romance, there is love and there are emotions in this relationship!Raj Malhotra and Puja Malhotra have four sons!Everyone lives happily until, Raj malhotra is retired from his job in a bank!After this retirement, the children don`t take the responsibility of looking after their parents, and so, as a result, both the parents are separated!The father has to live with the eldest son, where as the mother has to live with the second son!In this way, the ’made for each other’ pair gets separated!The children also start misbehaving with their parents!The flowers in this BEAUTIFUL GARDEN die and the garden which once looked so colourful, gets dry!
THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Ravi Chopra`s direction is brilliant!How, the emotional scenes are executed, is praiseworhty!Just check out the part where, the parents have to separate and the climax!These scenes will melt your heart!How natural they look!Screenplay, is alright!In, the second half the film somehow, loses its grip, but picks it up towards the climax!Editing, is fine!The film drags too much in the second half!Also, some unwanted songs pop out of nowhere!Dialogues, are heartwarming!Just look out for the dialogues used in the climax!Cinematography, is wonderful, capturing beautiful sceneries, beautifully!Aadesh Shrivastava`s, music is good!Songs like ’’Meri Mahna Meri Soniye’’, ’’Chali Chali’’ and ’’Pehle Kabhi’’, are hummable!
