A New Street Hawk Born

Hi Friends ! This is my first review ever in my life so forgive me for any mistakes.Anyway coming right on to the point I am writing for my new Bike the Bajaj Pulser 180 dtsi which I purchased on the 15th of Jan 2004 and is a marvellous machine.I had never ever tried biking in all my 27 years of life and I was thrilled to have this deadly beast. It is Powerful , has great stamina and sexy looks.

My Street Hawk has done around 2400 kms after which I took it for it’ s 2nd Service.During the first 1000 kms I used to ride it at 55-65 at the most in 5th gear at 3500 to 4000 rpm and before 1st service it returned a milage of 44-46.After 1st service it gave 52-53 and after 1064 kms I tried to rev the bike a little and touched 100 and max 110 at 8000 rpm but then the speedo needle would not go any further.

My friend told me that the Digital Microprocerssor would not allow to go any further after a certain kms. is completed.Nevertheless once I completed 2000 kms I tested again and this time I could reach 115 but once I tried to stoop down like fast bikers do I saw the needle move upto 120. I had 2 days vacation and nobody was at home so I decided to visit a friend of mine in Chandigarh and took my bike for the 270 km long excursion(One way).

On the Delhi- Karnal Hwy I spanked nearly all cars and bikes except for one Ford Ikon and had a race with a White Zen for quite a while after which he gave up when my bike had touched 132 at 9200 rpm and it was going in the red zone so I maintained a crusing speed of 90, 100 and 110.

Most of the time I was on 100 and 105 and the bike was like a Power House absolutely no problem in pickup or acceleration and deadly stamina.I used to relax for about 20 mins after 1 hrs of continous driving during which time I had refreshment and my bike had some rest. The speed and the style left people in awe and whereever I parked my Black Stallion I could see and feel people watching me and the Bike.would like to mention that after 120 it takes about 5-7 minutes for the speed to increase and if it reaches 122 then u can see the needle moving to 125 and 130 or so.

So one has to hang on at that speed for quite a while. After that I never tested the bike at its top speed but I was a regular customer of 110-115 without any problems. The Disc brakes are highly effective and new riders who are not used to disc brakes should seat themselves by leaving 3-5 inches away from the Petrol tank; my sincere suggestion. They have saved me and lots of cows and other motorists quite a number of times.

One major drawback of the Bike the Seats are uncomfortable on long journeys and the Handle bars can tire u after 1 hrs due to odd riding posture if driven for long.

I am not very satisfied with the Service people of Bajaj as during the 1st service they were going to replace the Engine oil by 20 - 40 that is meant for Pulser 150. They never had one for 180cc engine. I had to fight with them on this point and get the Engine oil at my own expense by walking down quite a distance as they were reluctant to get one from market. During 2nd service they said it is HP Servo racer 20-50 but I doubt what they had put in there as it was a loose container with black oil without any label. The service people were not very hospitable and would prevent one to see what was going on with the owners bike. They would replace few parts and then add it to the bill without informing that cost had to be borne by the owner.

To sum up, the 180 dtsi Pulser gives u true value for ur hard earned money and the twin spark plugs make optimum use of all resources. But treat it like ur child and strictly observe the Booklet and the speed limits during the runnin period and reap the benefits later. Clean the bike once a week and apply waxpol. Don’t always rev the bike. Drive as far as possible at 65-70 and see the Man and Machine both happy.

Bye For now and Drive Safely.
