Knight in Red Armour - Literally

Hello people, welcome to my review on the Pulsar 150 DTSi. Mine is the July 2004 model sans the alloy wheels and nitrous shocks. But still the knight in red armour (coz mine is a red pulsar) has saved me more than once from a bad fall, which u will find in due course of my review. But sorry guys, the review does not have any tech details as they can be found in many reviews on the site.

Now y only Pulsar DTSi? Well I was using a Samurai 1997 model till I got tired of its sluggishness and dated looks. But it was still a good bike and never let me down except thrice due to my folly. But that apart, I wanted to change for a powerful bike. Where else to look for other than mouthshut. So I logged on and read many a reviews in favour of this bike. Fine I said and booked my Red Knight in July 2004. Wanted to go for the black one but found out that the red was a new shade, not the old red of the pulsar 150 and wanted to go for it.

Hmmm.... The first 1000 kms was very good for my baby as I took real good care and never crossed the speed limits specified. He was real joy to ride though slowly as well. I am a speed maniac and want to ride any bike to its limit. So finally the testing period of 1000 kms later I opened the throttle of my knight and was he raring to go. He just zoomed to 90 in a flash. I just enjoyed it. But did not go further as I was afraid it might harm his heart (read engine).

Then when he had done 2500 kms came his real test. He was performing good and I liked the rides a lot. Then this guy with a CBZ stopped right next to me at a signal and gave me the sinster stare and smiled. It was an silent bet to the next signal about 1/2 km away(bangalore signals I swear). He revved his bike and was waiting for the signal to turn green. Both of us closed our visors and at the touch of green zoomed past the halted citizens at other signals staring at us... My pulsar took off to a zoom start and was way ahead of the CBZ guy and I stopped at the next signal where the guy arrived 3 seconds later and gave a nod of approval for my bike and my riding prowess.

Next was the ride at night 3:00 where I was doing 100 on a main road and dint notice the speed breaker. The bike flew over the hump and landed rock solid on the ground. Not a flinche. He was roaring at 70 even after that jump and was waiting for me to open the throttle. He is a real joy.

When I mount my bike I just become one with him. The pleasure of riding him is a class apart. If I keep on going then there wont be space here guys so back to the review now.

The things I like about my mean machine:

  • Great pick up for a bike in its class

  • Very good electricals and a fine head light for riding on dark roads

  • Excellent suspension to soak up the potholes on Bangalore roads

  • Applaudable stability at high speeds.

  • Top speed not upto my satisfaction but still ok for daily commuters.

  • Good handling especially for the Bangalore traffic and the bad roads of Bangalore.

  • Riding comfort is ok but bound to get a neck pain if u ride for long in heavy traffic.

Things I dont like about this bike:

  • Does not start in a single kick in the mornings even in summer

  • Takes some time to heat up before u can ride without any jerks

  • Top speed not upto the mark as u can beat it with a RX 135 4 speed easily which is a shame for a bike of its capacity (148cc) and its modern tech specifications

  • Heavy in the front. Becomes a problem when parking the bike or removing it from a cramped parking space.

Overall my experience with my knight in red armour is very good and I just love the feel and ride on my bike. But if there are any mechanical experts out there reading my review please suggest ways to increase the power of my bike as I crave for speed. Thats one thing that thrills me to the core. I am not very mechanical so please make it simple. Looking forward to your suggestions in the comments section.

Thanks guys !!!!!!! My knight is waiting for me for a nite ride. SO ADIOS AMIGOS!!!!

Catch ya guys again soon !!!
