The bike-maker is geared up to let go of its under-achievers in the segment by stopping the production of Caliber 115 in October 2004 and slowly riding the Wind 125 off the Indian roads by branding it a for export only product.
I bought this bike abt 4 months back and havent quite regretted the decision. With so many bikes available it was a tough choice. The alternatives were Ambition and Caliber 115 since I wanted something more than a 100 cc. Ambition is funny on design especially the tank. Caliber is good and popular too but and extra 10cc and 5 gears made me settle for the Wind.
The bike was very smooth initially but after the first service it seems a little rough than before. Probably the mechanics in Khivraj- Anna Salai lack adequate talent or training for anything other than Pulsar. Its been giving me exactly 53 kms since then at 40-45 kmph. At higher speed of even 50kmph it drops to much less than 50 although I have avoided going beyond 40-45 kmph 95% of the time due to the run in period. I have been consistantly using Speed/premium petrol. The bike has been running mainly in the 5th gear at 45kmph. It seems breathless at the 4th gear even at a speed of 40. Probably needs better tuning. Will discuss that in the second service.
The riding is comfortable even for the pillion rider thanks to the long seat. The shockers are superb, horn loud and clear. Till 4 months back I couldnt see any Wind on the road in Chennai, but now I run into them every once a while. A good and comfortable bike if the marginally low mileage does not bother you much.
