Bangaliyana Bangalore

**Bangaliyana **is a Bengali restaurant situated in Kormangala near Forum. This is one of the oldest Bengali restaurants of Bangalore but trust me if you ever visit this place you will not certainly like to visit it once again.

The interior is dimly lit with food being served on dirty plates and people sitting on top of one another. The only thing that this restaurant reminds me is of a tea stall at a village.... The food quality is very bad. There is no standard rates for the item...

The menu is hand written on a white board and is entirely depends on the owner’s wish. The worst of all is the fact that people do not mind sharing their tables with other strangers. The food that is severed is overly priced and not cooked hygienically. If you are being charged so highly then you certainly expect the food quality and the ambiance to be good but that is not the case with this restaurant or rather ’TEA STALL’.

You will be made to sit on chairs with door mats placed on them. Water will be served out of dirty old mineral water bottles. You will have to wait for hours before you are shown a table on with already other people are sitting. When you ask for the menu card the waiter starts reciting the menu card out to you and if you are not brilliant enough to catch up with him , he will point you a board on which the day’s menu is written.

After a few minutes(thankfully you dont have to wait long) you are served with only rice , daal and a morsel of what they claim to be a fry. When you ask where the rest of the dishes that you had ordered are, you will be rudely told that they will be there at their due time.Next comes you fish or meat or what ever you have asked for. You will have to scan an entire bowl full of watery jhol to find your piece.

I have nothing to say for the taste. It is really inedible. I am sure that is anyone of us tried our hands on trying to cook that dish we would have come up with better outcome. I have never in my life tasted any Bengali food being so badly prepared.

After a long torture of trying to finish your food you ultimately think of giving up and paying your bill. You will have to get used to the fact that you will not be given the bill at your table but you will have to actually go and pay it at the front desk. The moment you tell them that you will be paying by Card, a disgusted expression crosses the person’s face sitting on the desk. With much irritation he would make himself switch on the card swiping machine and accept your payment.

I feel ashamed of the fact that Bengalis are cheating Bengalis this way. The food is overly priced then I think the owner can think a bit about the ambiance and dishes and certainly the food taht is being served. It is a shame that people put up such a sorry picture of Bengali culture to others. I would strictly advise people to avoid taking their friends to this restaurant if they want to show them a flavor of the Bengali culture and food.
