I had one of the unfortunate experience, which most honest citizens would have gone through, with the corrupt Bangalore Traffic Police. I had a dinner with a cousin and drank 3 glasses of beer. After having dropped him at his hotel, while driving back home, I was stopped by the traffice police. They asked my name, and thought I had consumed alcohol. He checked me with the breath analyzer, which read 17 mg only!! however, the inspector still argued that I cough up Rs. 300, as druken driving is not permited. he smartly took out his blackberry and gave me a receipt. I asked him the legal limit, and he said it was 45 mg. Despite being well below the limit he still took the fine for me.
What shocked me was that the receipt carried the message: "fined for reckless driving". but did not mention reckless driving under the influence of alcohol. I checked from my sources and the traffic police website. I WAS DUPED!!! the inspector had no right to collect the money, since the legal limit was 30mg, and I should have not paid the fine. but later I came to know, that these jokers collect the fine, to push up their monetary incentives.
These jokers- who would give a receipt of their loot, would not dare catch an auto driver, who would charge extra money or carry a pollution certificate or drive recklessly. These legitimate robbers on the streets of Bangalore are cowards beyond doubt. I wonder if we are implementing 2 am time limit for restaurants and pubs. I am sure these jokers would have a great night!!
I advice everybody to read the traffic fine list on the internet., before you venture out to these robbers!! who needs illegal crime unit.. when these men in White uniforms, would take care of giving a bad reputation to Bangalore.
Hope the Global Investors who recently came to Bangalore, should also consider, what kind of life would their employees face.
Think again Gentlemen!!
