I have been using barclay card for the past one year in india. I thought it was a no frills credit card, but to my surprise, i found it very ridiculous when i used it abroad.
I have been to malaysia and singapore in the month of december 08, on a family tour. Since barclay card is an international bank and had branches extensively all over the world, i used it for about rs.50, 000=00, for my shopping and other expenses in malaysia and singapore.
After returning home, and receiving my monthly credit card statement of barclay card, i found for every foreign transaction done, i was debited with a finance charge and another service tax charge. And above all, i did not get any reward points in spite of using the card for about rs.50, 000=00.
See, i have used other cards like citicard, abn amro and deutsche bank credit cards, and they have not charged any extra finance charges nor any service tax charges, they have taken their amount which was equivalant to the then exchange rate of dollar. There were no hassles at all. But as for barclay card it was not so, and they have taken more money out of my account when compared to others.
I feel it was not correct for barclay card company to do like this. And i advice all of you not to use this card any more.
