I Love This!

It was Michael Jackson who sang, “You are not alone.” Well, I am happy to see that I am not alone in heaping praise on this new twosome who has appeared so suddenly and unexpectedly on the music scene of India. No one has ever heard of them before this arrival. No one has any background information on them. No one knows what other music they have been involved in before they teamed up for doing this absolutely fantastic album call Barson Huey. But such super music does not become overnight so they must have been actively working on other thing behind the scenes. Curious to know about their works in early years. It is a nice feeling then to look back and think, “Oh, they did that!”

You know, once in a while you come across an album that is really worth collecting, one that you would really like to listen again and again and play in home, car, office and so on. For me that happened with Adnan Sami’s first album and with the Rabbi album. So it is familiar feeling to discover this album. But it was by pure accident. I would never have found this unless I was roaming around in music shops on a Sunday afternoon with time to kill and nothing to do. I spotted the album because of its smart cover and neat poster. Shopkeeper told me sound was nice, not regular remix masala numbers. Price was very cheap. So I bought.

I will not repeat what other Mouth Shut members have said about album. I agree with all of them. Additionally, I would like to say these:

This is what I call real music, good music. The song has catchy opening that makes you want to listen a little bit more. When you listen a little bit more, the song sounds good with good tune. Then you listen to words of what the singer is singing, and the words are also nice, not the bakwaas things you listen nowadays. Then you wonder if this is only for first song, and the rest of album is so-so like what happened with Rabbi. But second song is also great. So by the time you come to last song on second side, you realise what a fantastic album this is! Of all album I have purchased in last five six years, no one has been this fantastic! Sanjo and Chandrani are true artist who has crafted each song like a work of art with same detail and dedication. None of songs are timepass type of rubbish. Each one leave a strong impression in mind that you have heard something really special.

My favourite song is what everybody is talking: Barson Huey. It is very obvious winner. A completely different tune style and lovely words. This is going to become big hit, I am sure. My other favourite is Mujhe Tumse Kuch Kehna Hai. It is really foot-tapping and has lovely guitar sounds to make it sound soft and sensitive. My third favourite is Sapnay. I have feeling that ultimately after passage of times, this is the song that the band will be remembered for – the classic as they say like Alisha’s Made In India and Nazia’s Disco Diwanay.

One difference I will point out however with Rabbi, Euphoria, Strings and other today’s bands. Sanjo and Chandrani songs are quite complicated. It is difficult to sing along with some of the song. For example, Sapnay has very tough movements and you need very versatile voice to sing like that kind of song. And you have to really vary your voice to sing the whole song. Same with Barson Huey – the middle parts are quite tough.

Final Judgement: I feel this is a golden album. I really admire the quality of music, and the ideas on which song are based. So different from standard song of pyaar-mohabbat and all that stuff!
