Batti Gul Meter Chalu is a movie about a common man chasing his dreams who falls prey to another one of these vulture organizations, the electricity board which decides that the monthly electricity bill for running a factory has to be more than the entire cost of the business and the loan taken to operate it! I was hesitant to go for the movie because of its running time and the fact that my recent experiences with movies aiming to showcase the problems faced by the Indian society have not been fun. Toilet, Padman and the lot were inspiring, but in my opinion they were extremely dragged, preachy and focused a lot on unwanted side-stories. Batti Gul Meter Challu starts off in the same mould where for the first half hour you are left wondering if the movie is about the lives of three friends caught in the middle of a love triangle or about fighting against the corruption at the electricity board. But then the movie picks up and becomes extremely gripping in the second half, especially the court scenes.
