Madonnas Bedtime Stories album is probably the album that changed Madonna forever! This album sets her apart from what she had been doing in the 80s! You could probably say Madonna was out to explore and experiment with different sounds, and from what it sounds like, it worked! Track one on Bedtime Stories is a song called Survival, and in this song it starts out on a hard core r & b note! This could have been a single from the album, but for some unfortunate reason it did not! This song was co-written by Madonna herself! In the song she really gives you her all, and she does it well! The big radio hit Secret follows up, and this song is probably Madonnas most unique song to this very day! Even though it has a hint of r & b, it is very dancy! I think in this song, Madonna is reaching a point of truth here! She basically tells you the listener a little bit about herself and some of the hard lessons she has learned in life, and especially in her fame! Too bad radio seems to forget one of Madonnas biggest hits in her later years! Id Rather Be Your Lover is the next track, and it is somewhat of a throwback to the banned Justify My Love! Madonna just sounds like Madonna here! Basically with the lyrics, and the music, it is just your basic Madonna song! Not too bad of a tune here! Dont Stop is next in line, and this song takes you to where Madonna is certainly comfortable, the dance floor! I would consider this a mature version of her 80s hit Holiday! This is one I love to play over and over again! Inside Of Me is yet another r & b flavored song! Madonna being the trendsetter she is, paves the way for the up and coming divas of the late 90s and the 2000s here! This is what will later become Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera! Any of todays current pop acts could easily sing this soft and mellow track! Human Nature is right behind, and in this song Madonna certainly spits some truth at the world here! She gets very autobiographical, and she is also a bit angry here! This is probably a late reaction to her book Sex, or Justify My Love, or even The Truth Or Dare Movie......She is telling you here that just because she has broken some of the rules, she is not sorry! I must agree here with the diva! Had a man done the things she did, a small slap on the wrist would probably have been the case, and in her case, being a woman, she got the bitter end! WAY TO GO MADONNA for spitting the truth out on how you feel! Going back to yet another dreamy and soft r & b flavor is the song Forbidden Love! Babyface co-wrote this with Madonna and also he makes a vocal appearance here too! A very smooth and silky track! Love Tried To Welcome Me is another soft ballad on the album! This is a song for the type of person who knows what it is like to run from love! Madonna shows signs here of how weak she can even be! I believe for this to be sort of an autobiographical song! But over all, how can a superstar like Madonna find love when the entire world is watching your every move? Madonna is just simply telling you how hard her life can be sometimes! Sanctuary is next in line, and this is one out of two songs on the cd that dips into an electronica styled sound, this is one sound she will come back to on Ray Of Light! She is poetic here and also she is deep in lyric here too! If you liked Ray Of Light, then you will certainly like this song! The title track is the other electronica styled piece! This was a song penned by an electronica superstar, Bjork! It is unsual, and different! This song did not fair too well with most of the average Madonna listeners, it just showed signs of growing that the average listener just did not get or understand....this is yet another song that would easily fit on a future album called Ray Of Light! Madonna returns to another r & b styled song that was written by Babyface, who also appears one more time vocally as well! This is probably one of Madonnas best ballads of ALL TIME! A pefect way to close the album out as well! This song is beautiful, soulful, and it just brings out the best in Madonna vocally! She really soars on these lower tones that she uses! She does not aim too high vocally, she keeps it simple! Over All I give Bedtime Stories an 8 out of 10 stars!
