Cool party, irritating aftermath

This was like 3 years back. Basically it was a mail I sent to dad who wasn’t here at that time. Rather than write nothing and get lost on I decided to put this here.

Pritam’s birthday party at Fortune Landmark turned out to be just GREAT. Better than I had expected. It was very decent and yet enjoyable….not like those stupid birthday’s that Riya celbrates every year, where they do kiddish stuff….which many times I find ridiculous and sometimes even cheap.

But, you see Pritam is a decent kid, so this was predicted.

As I told you, the party was at Fortune Landmark. Classes got over at 8 and the party started at 8.15 or so. So, I had made arrangements with dadaji that Samirbhai would pick me up directly from class at 8 and take us to Fortune Landmark and he would stay there till the thing gets over and bring me back then.

So, samirbhai came at 8. Leena came with me and Priya was supposed to come with us too. Priya doesn’t study in my class, so I told her to come to class at about 7.50 and we would go there together in dadaji’s car. But she didn’t turn up till 8.10 or so. I tried to call her up on her cell, but she wouldn’t lift it. Her brother was going to drop her. So I tried calling his cell too but no answer. I was getting a little irritated because of lots of reasons. First, it was an EXTREMELY hot and humid day and getting all sweaty and sticky with party clothes on is VERY irritating and…….also because Priya sometimes DOES do things in an unplanned and unorganized way. Everybody from class had already left at about 7.50 or so, since the lecture got over a little early.

Then, I called her house. In fact, at 7.30, she had messaged me that she was leaving. So I couldn’t understand why she hadn’t reached yet. Finally, at her house, her brother answered the phone. I asked him why he was still home. He said that Priya was on the way with her mother. I said okay. Then I tried her cell again. This time she answered it. I asked her where she was. She was still quite far…and she hadn’t seen my class before. I had explained the address to her, but we didn’t want her to waste time in trying to find it now. So I told her to come to Barista(since it is very close to classes). So, Leena, Samirbhai and I went to Barista in the car and she came there and we hurried off to Fortune Landmark.

We made it there in good time. Traffic wasn’t as bad as we had expected. We wished Pritam a happy birthday. We had all given him a common present. The deal was that two of his friends(who are also my friends) would take him to a good place and he could buy whatever he wanted and those two friends would pay for him. Then, they would recover the amount from all of us, who were jointly giving him the present. It was a good idea and almost all the invitees were a part of it. Pritam already had his present, since he himself had selected it that morning. Still, for formality’s sake, he held up the present and all of us went and placed our hands on it like those people place their hands on the Gita in court “Jo bhi kahunga sach kahunga etc” This was basically to represent that this was from all of us. It was funny.

Then, Vinay made a comment about my face looking different. Twice or thrice before, he has found my face to be different than what it was the previous time he had met me. I don’t know……probably because, we don’t meet that often now. So, he probably finds my face to be different since he meets me after long gaps of time. Why does someone have to comment on MY FACE? HE should manage his own. Well, so he said something about my face looking different, then he was like, ………maybe it’s your hair. So, Leena made a dumb comment, “Her hair looks different because, for a change, it is COMBED today.” And everybody started laughing. It was all in good spirits, though. There WAS some truth in her comment. My hair is so small that no matter how much I comb it, it always becomes all spiky and messed up by the time I reach class or wherever. So, if my hair is neatly combed and in place, people think it looks different. Then she said that I had got it cut.(But actually I had not) People always keep asking me if I’ve got a haircut. I don’t know why everybody keeps thinking that I get my hair cut everyday or something. Whenever I leave it open, somebody or the other asks me, ” Say………….did you get a haircut?” Maybe, my hair has a unique property of looking freshly cut. Whatever it was, Vinay finally opined that my hair looked better this way.(Ew!….) I don’t know why people have to discuss my hair. Even, in the past this has happened sometimes. An unnecessarily dumb conversation about my hair pops out of nowhere.

Then we fooled around for a while and sat down for dinner. There were about 35 people there. They had set two long tables for us. Just beside our table, there was a huge screen where India vs. Aus  was going on. So everybody was talking and eating and watching the match and oooooooohhhhiing and aaaaahing when someone got or missed a wicket etc.…….and it was fun. The best part is that, we people(the ones who were invited) have a very good rapport with each other. Though we might not be close to everybody else, at least we’re cool wherever we go. We gel very well. So, we were all having a great time….and watching cricket. The food was good – Punjabi. And dessert was even better – obviously. Pastry, gulabjamun and some ‘rabdi’ kind of thing – which I didn’t eat. I only had the pastry and gulabjamun. And one guy actually claimed that one of our professors sits in his cabin with sunglasses on.

Then we all thanked Pritam and said bye to him and all and came back home. Pritam looked really tired and his eyes were all red since the party started. I asked him if he hadn’t had sleep the previous night or what. He said that he watches all the matches including the ones which start at 12.30 in the night!(this was during some hi-fi cricket tournament) So he doesn’t get enough sleep in the night. Don’t you think that’s freaky? Why spoil your sleep for some cricket match? Aw well…….interests vary.

Next day, as soon as I stepped into class……Jimmy Sharma, the biggest chatterbox of our class asked me, “I heard that Aryan asked for your cell number yesterday at the party?”

I was like, ” so what?”

So, he says, “I have also heard that you made a face when he asked you….”(meaning I wasn’t willing to give him my no.).

I said, “No.” I hadn’t made any face, but he was a little right about me not wanting to give him my cell no. Basically, that guy is really disgusting. I hate him. Not only is he bad at behavior but also very annoying. But then, who knows? I find most people around me to be annoying…….But, in no way had I shown that unwillingness to give my no. or whatever. But I didn’t give it to him anyway.(contd. in comments section)
