Warning:
Trespassers would be castigated, beaten up and mutilated. Those left breathing will be prosecuted. So, if u dare to tres(and I see that you have indeed dared), do not just pass. Do hang about, read, rate and finally-comment.
With that finished, Ill now get back to my work. In my third revu What lies beneath!, I had pledged that in my tenth revu I would give out the darker facade of BITS-Pilani. I assured u that Id let u recognize how not to let these venal things effect u in a very adverse way. I propose to tell u at the present how to get the affirmative out of these here and shun the negative. I also desire to emphasize, for the ppl who are aspiring to get into this place and for those who are already in but are fresh to this place, how u have got to go with ur studies.
Coz, its quite different here and we all have lost one priceless year coz we couldnt figure it out in proper time.
The other precious years, many of us have squandered away on the other tribulations: Politics and Too much freedom
Politics in Pilani isnt actually of any malevolence at all. It is infact quite appealing and helpful. Ull get to know different ppl of diversified cultures. Ull comprehend how to deal with them. Ull discern the natures of various ppl. Ull empathize with the fact that u have to be on ur sentinel always and how u should not be gullible. Ur communication and influential capabilities increase radically. Ur awareness too will increase immensely. To kiss(keep it short and simple), ull know what and how life in reality is!
Politics is very civilized here. The president and general secretary candidates have to go thru meticulous drilling in the form of auditorium debate where they will be questioned on their manifestoes and other constitutional aspects. They get broad-spectrum questions and oodles of unexpected stuff from a panel of elite seniors - the election commission panel. It wouldnt be immoral if I say that they will be royally f.Even for the posts of hostel representatives and mess secretaries, the charge is no easier. They too have debate sessions in their respective hostels and mess by the respective inmates. There is this election commission(also comprising students) who set up norms of behaviour and other conventions for the candidates and their campaigners. They keep a check on these politically active ppl to make sure that they do not go afar from the limits.
But, what all shud happen does happen. Its not just the election commission which is intelligent! We have all the things happening which ensue in Jeffrey Archers novels and in movies. I wont cite all those here coz I want this to be an advice feature and not one for entertainment. I mentioned all this so that ull have an idea of how itll be. I have not and am not going to elucidate more than necessary for the advice to commence.
Next comes this:How to study??
In my first year I(and many others) committed a folly. I was accustomed to reading every line of a textbook in my +2. This is not the mode here. U have to muse only on the topics covered in the classrooms. After all, u cannot read every nook and corner of a tome in 5 1/2 months. U CANT! Just listen to me! Its engineering yaar. Cmon! Half of this 51/2 months goes away for the aforesaid things. So, its imperative that u ensue with the studies in a efficient way (rather than in an effective way). U just need to be application oriented. Not much of theory required.
Every course has its requisites-a) application or b) theory. Get to recognize it from ur seniors and advance.
Let me share a secret with u-
In Pilani, if u attend all the classes(which 75% of the population do not do), u neednt slog out in the nights to maintain ur percentile (not percentage!). That is enough! With apposite notes and classroom knowledge, u can crack (even splinter and snap!) the tests with preparation just for 1-day before the exams.
Many of us have experienced this. We went the off beam way in our first year and mislaid significant percentage. We learned this later--thru our own experience. U do it right from the commencement from our (ur seniors) know-how and ull gain a lot!
One more thing-seniors tell u that every course is childs play!. Do not get carried away. Nothing is easy if u do not attend classes. Dont u now believe that ur +2 courses are easy? And how did u sense the same when u were in that class? Its the equivalent- after completion seniors do feel that ur courses are easy! Its not that they want to mis led u.
Attend the curriculum and u can enjoy all the wonderful things BITS has in the offing! U need not slog for hours and hours into the long nights. U need not miss out on the enjoyment and the extra-curricular activities!
One final thing,
Generally in the first year, the advice u get is to contemplate only on studies. U are advised not to get into any clubs and departments(all these are managed by the students alone-go thru the revus from the horses mouth and the best years of my life on BITS to know abt these) here. But, if u want to get into a dept, u are taken in only as a fresher. Not in the subsequent years. So, I advice u to get into depts. & clubs of ur choice and study simultaneously right from the first. Life in these depts. and clubs is an experience within itself. I need not elaborate on its remuneration for bright ppl like u. Right??
Let us see how much u make use of this small but really useful help.
Hope u come out with flying colours.
And ha... All the best!
Do not complain later.
Remember...in this world there is nothing called chance theres only choice and it is u who has to choose what is best!
The utmost help any body can do is offer advice.
U need to execute finally!
All the best once again!
All this stuff looks too simple! Do u feel that all this I have typed out is trash?? But, ull surely be tempted to go the other way once u come here. Wanna bet????
And hence, this advice.
