He Comes Again in the Khaki Uniform

It was a thrill to see Suresh Gopi back in action and to make it even better, he returned as a cop once again! It has many a few years since he gave a performance and there could not have been a better way than making his comeback in “Bharatchandran IPS”, a sequel to his famous “Commissioner”.

The story takes place in the Malabar Coast. Under the leadership of an underworld bad guy, Hyder Ali Hassan (Sai Kumar), they want to build a smart city near Kozhikode. He fears there will be opposition so he creates a smart scheme. He stirs up tension and a class between the local communities. Mayambaram Baba (Sri Raman) is a Muslim leader who tries to bring peace and harmony. Many clashes occur throughout the story including the Mulsim/Hindu conflicts. The government starts to take action for the good of the nation. In court, Mayambaran Baba gets murdered. Now what to do? What to do? Police IG Habeer Basheer (Lalu Alex) sets up BHARATCHANDRAN to solve the case along with a team of other officers.

The beginning of the movie feels somewhat long because there is quite a bit of narration and introduction. The movie starts to move with a faster pace when Suresh Gopi enters. His strong action and powerful dialogue sweeps away the hearts of many fans who desired to see him once again.

I saw this movie in India and I am not a huge fan of police movies or military movies although I can tolerate them, however, Suresh Gopi’s performance was the highlight of “Bharatchandran IPS”. One element which some may believe is a drawback while others saw it as a relief was that there were no songs but background music which was the remix of the “Commissioner” music. Its difficult to explain Suresh Gopi’s mind blowing performance and I truly think he is the best police officer Malayalam movies has seen. I mean think about it, can Mamootty, Mohanlal, or even Dileep(that would be strange) act as a stronger or more powerful police officers? One with such diligence and strength and the mind of a true actor can successfully achieve this goal.

*After a few days since I watched this movie, I coincidentally and surprisingly met Suresh Gopi in person. He was on his way to Madras for a movie shoot I believe, while I was coming back home to the US. I got a chance to talk to him for about half hour and I got his autograph and a picture with him. I had the chance to personally congratulate him. If any of you are his huge fans, you picked a great guy to follow and admire. In reality he is not at all cocky or rude. He is one of the nicest people ever. He does not have any arrogance and he was willing to talk to me and take a picture. I was lucky to first to notice him and get his picture because the police lady started prohibiting people from taking pictures with him and Suresh Gopi found that rude. So when I went to get his autograph, he was jokingly saying “Eni, police penninodu chothikeno?”(Now, do I have to ask the police lady) haha…I had so much fun just hanging out with him for about that hour. His flight was earlier than ours. Well, I actually should say that my sister found him first and asked me, “chechi, isn’t that suresh gopi?” I looked and was surprised. I went up to him and aked

“Suresh Gopi alle?”(Your Suresh Gopi right?)

“athe”(yes)

“Njan Bharatchandran IPS kandairunnu. Good Job. It was very good!”(I saw Bharatchandran IPS. It was really good)

“Thank you”

After the checking, Suresh Gopi and I became buddies but I didn’t want to bother him too much so I tried not to! HAHA! Sorry, I dragged the review with my personal story but it was very exciting especially because I just saw one of his greatest movies!

So, I would say, GO WATCH IT AND GIVE IT A TRY! IF YOU LIKE POWERFUL PERFORMANCES OR YOU ARE A SURESH GOPI FAN, YOU WILL ENJOY IT!
