The two reviews on MS about Bhookh.com got me intrigued. A website which donates a cup of food to hungry children just courtesy a single click. Wow! Unheard of. No payment, no charges-seemed too good to be true. And to be honest, I suspected some kind of scam in it. And coupled with the fact that both the reviewers were not clear on how the whole process worked got me even more suspicious about the intentions of the site. So, I decided to visit the site myself and investigate. And, I found my answer in the FAQ section of the site.
To quote the site, “Bhookh.com is the Indias first online activism site. It gives Internet users the daily opportunity to quickly make a difference in the fight to end hunger in India. In less than 5 seconds, visitors can click on the Give Free Food button and, at no cost to them and send food to the hungry. The staple food is paid for by Bhookh.com sponsors.”
This means that when you click the “Give Free Food” button, your click is registered with their server and it carries you to the Thank you page where there are slabs with the ads of the day’s sponsors. So, basically it is the sponsors who pay for the food. That is, their ad is displayed for a certain amount of time on the Thank You page. Bhookh.com calculates the net time that the ad was displayed on the Thank you page and the number of people who clicked on the site that day and bills the sponsors accordingly. The money collected is donated by Bhookh.com towards food for the hungry.
Therefore, the success of Bhookh.com depends on generous sponsors and visitors like us. The only hitch is that you can click just once a day. They have some sort of system to ensure that only one click per person will be registered. Hence, they have advised us to make Bhhokh.com our home page so that we can remember to click on it daily to provide a child with food.
The site was founded by Vikas Sutaria, who was inspired by his best friend, an army man who laid down his life in a fatal combat in Kashmir.
So, MSers you can help by clicking or by finding sponsors for such a noble cause.
